Classic fans raise £679k for charity
Analysis of lots sold at classic auctions in 2025 reveals that £679,012 was raised for good causes.
More than 60% of that total was accounted for by a 1968 Ferrari 330 GTC Coupé sold by Bonhams in December, with the proceeds going to Diabetes UK and The Royal National Institute of Blind People. Mathewsons also used its Christmas auction to help raise £19.4k for charities, adding to a £79k fundraising tally in 2025.
Iconic Auctioneers said that it sold several notable lots to raise funds, including a 1961 Volkswagen T1 that garnered £92,250 for Great Ormond Street Hospital, Nick Mason CBE’s Pink Floyd edition VW Golf Cabriolet that raised £7875 for Harefield Healing Garden Charity and the late Chris Rea’s electric Mini 30, which brought in £25,875 for REFUGE.
Iconic’s managing director and principal auctioneer, Rob Hubbard, said, ‘This year, we saw several high profile lots cross the block for charity, with a number of vehicles offered by celebrity owners for their chosen cause. Following the tragedy at Bicester Motion, we raised £6.5k via charity lots and proceeds from catalogue sales for charities chosen by the victims’ families. The fact that we have been able to raise more than £140k for charity this year is testament to the strength of the classic car enthusiast community and their ability to do good for worthy causes.’
Brightwells confirmed that its £15k fundraising total included lots that raised cash for Air Ambulance, Kemp House Hospice and Lingen Davies Cancer Fund and a Honda Insight raised £9271 for Make 2nds Count at Historics. In addition Manor Park Classics confirmed that it had donated £10 from every lot sold in the second half of 2025 to the Destination Florida Children’s Charity and Morris Leslie said that it had supported the Scotland Air Ambulance and the T&SH Ukraine charity.
H&H Classics’ managing director Colette McKay added, ‘One particularly special moment was the auction of Dave Myers’ BSA Gold Star, which raised £15.8k for CancerCare North Lancashire & South Cumbria, NSPCC Childline and The Institute of Cancer Research.’
South Western Vehicle Auctions confirmed that it has raised £5.5k, including £2.2k for the Dorset Cancer Care Foundation. Its classic specialist, Owen Shepherd, said, ‘Being able to use our platform and events to raise awareness and funds for organisations like Dorset Cancer Care Foundation is something that we’re keen to build upon.’
