They’ve been dating since the summer, but Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship has been dealt a huge blow, following rumours that Taylor got hitched to her longterm ex, Joe Alwyn before they split in April. 

American footballer Travis, 34, has been hit hard by the reports that the singer secretly wed London-born actor Joe, who she dated for seven years until between 2017-2023. Taylor’s team have denied any nuptials took place.

An insider reveals, “Travis is still all in on his romance with Taylor Swift, but the rumours about her previously being married to Joe Alwyn – as well as ongoing talk that she’s faking it with him – are messing with his head and causing tension.“

They add, “Travis believes Taylor when she says this talk about her and Joe tying the knot is garbage, but he still wants to know where it’s come from and if there’s any whiff of truth to it. He did a lot of reflecting while she was overseas [seeing Beyonce in London] and all this chatter about the romance being staged is getting him down, too. 

“He loves her dearly and still plans to propose, but it’s hitting home what a whirlwind it’s been and how they need to iron out these weird mysteries and differences ahead of time. For Taylor that’s irritating, she doesn’t like being questioned like this.” 

Last week, Taylor’s publicist accused DeuxMoi, a social media account that posts celebrity rumours to its two million followers, of inflicting “pain and trauma”. The account alleged that Taylor 33, secretly married Joe, 32, in either 2020 or 2021 in a non-legal ceremony.

Taylor’s publicist, Tree Paine, denied that a ceremony took place. In a rare public statement, she wrote on X, “Enough is enough with these fabricated lies about Taylor from Deuxmoi. There was NEVER a marriage or ceremony of ANY kind. This is an insane thing to post. It’s time for you to be held accountable for the pain and trauma you cause with posts like these.”

DeuxMoi has a disclaimer in its Instagram bio that reads, “Some statements made on this account have not been independently confirmed. This account does not claim information published is based in fact.”
It was bad timing for the rumour as it came just one day after Taylordropped her track You’re Losing Me online, which fans have speculated is written about her split from Joe.

The insider explains Travis is concerned about the long history Taylor and Joe have.
“The other big elephant in the room here for Travis is that she and Joe may still have some unfinished business, even if they’re not married. They were together for such a long time, and here she is in songs making it seem very much as though she wanted to settle down with him and make it official,” they say.

“Travis has that lingering worry, deep down, that maybe she is still on the rebound. It’s just one of those possibilities that keeps being brought up to him by friends and when he sees other rumours that feed into this type of notion it really sets him off. Right now he’s trying to look ahead and enjoy Taylor’s birthday, see the big picture and not let it take the gloss off this beautiful love story they’ve created together. But he still wants to keep working through these teething problems and confront nasty rumours head on, not just sweep them under the rug.”

Taylor – who flew to Kansas City to stay with Travis after the South American leg of her Eras Tour concluded at the end of November – is believed to be confused by the whole thing and is upset that a wedge is being driven between her and Travis.

They say, “Taylor has reassured Travis and others that this is pure fiction, a false narrative that’s being pedaled by trouble makers who have no clue what’s really going on in her world now or back then with Joe. She’s usually very good at ignoring these rumours, but this one really got to her because it keeps on popping up, and here it is getting all this air time again right when she and Travis are planning their long term future together.”

“The timing is icky and beyond irritating, so she and her team decided to go hard and hope to quash the chatter for once and for all. It’s worked to a degree, because people now know how serious she is in denying this from the rooftops and calling out anyone who wants to try and claim there’s validity to it. But she’s still dealing with the fallout it’s caused for her and Travis, as he’s very confused about the whole thing and wanting answers.”

But it’s not the first hurdle the pair have hit in their brief relationship. Shortly before the marriage rumours emerged, former UFC star-turned-Only Fans model Paige VanZant concocted the claim that Taylor and Travis’ relationship was ‘100 per cent fake’.

On her podcast Paige and Austin, Paige said, “The Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce ‘love story’… I believe it’s 100 percent fake.”
She added, “Come for me, ‘Swifties.’ I have UFC fans coming for me, I think I can handle the Swifties. It is publicity. It is. It’s huge for the NFL because yes, the NFL is big. 

“Taylor Swift is huge and now she’s getting an entirely different demographic to come watch the NFL. Think of the wives that are buying Travis Kelce jerseys now. It’s a huge publicity play on both fronts.

“It’s good for Taylor Swift, it’s good for the NFL, it’s good for Travis Kelce. There is so much strategic stuff that’s happening.”
The insider says all of the negative headlines about his relationship with Taylor is starting to grate on him. 

“Travis may come across like an extremely thick skinned macho man type, but he’s actually quite sensitive and very aware of the stuff that’s being said about him and Taylor’s relationship.”

They add, “When he sees these headlines or reads quotes from people blasting their romance as fake it really gets him down. The idea that he’d be a part of some cheesy staged soap opera is embarrassing and reflects badly on him, as far as he sees it, and he’s told that to Taylor in no uncertain terms. He also doesn’t understand how a rumour like this can just spring up out of nowhere and has told Taylor that if she has done some type of commitment ceremony then he won’t have an issue with it, just let him know.

“She’s sympathetic to a point but also very no-nonsense about this stuff, so for the most part it’s a case of her telling him to get over it and learn to ignore the haters. But while it’s easier for her to rise above it all it’s not that way for him. He’s even floating the idea of some type of public statement or joint interview, so they can put people in their place publicly and shout their love from the rooftops. But that’s never going to fly with Taylor.”

Taylor and Travis sparked romance rumours in September when the Look What You Made Me Do singer was spotted cheering Travis on as the Kansas City Chiefs played the Chicago Bears in Kansas. Taylor later revealed the pair were already a couple at that game.

Talking about how they met, she revealed, “This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell.

“We started hanging out right after that. We actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”

The star also opened up on being more public about this relationship compared to her previous relationships. Taylor explained that she is taking a different approach now as “me locking myself in my house for a lot of years – I’ll never get that time back”.

She continued, “When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care. The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”
