Kevin Costner’s ‘late life crisis’ – as he insists new girlfriend is no gold digger

As romance continues to blossom between Kevin Costner and singer Jewel, his ex wife Christine Baumgartner is said to have her reservations

Three months after his bitter divorce to ex wife Christine Baumgartner was finalised, Kevin Costner is enjoying a new romance with singer Jewel. But while the Hollywood actor is happily splurging out on nice dates and lavish gifts for his new beau, an insider says Christine is fuming that he’s moved on so quickly and thinks he’s going through a “late life crisis”.
They say, “Christine is not happy at all that he’s got a new leading lady in his life – and she’s telling him to keep Jewel far away from their kids or there’ll be hell to pay.”
They add that Christine thinks it’s hypocritical of Kevin, 68, to have gone so public with the romance after her ex’s lawyer questioned her relationship with Kevin’s friend Josh Connor during divorce proceedings. Christine claimed they were friends and nothing more.
“She thinks it’s pretty rich and hypocritical of Kevin to be parading around like this when he flipped out when there were rumours she’d moved on with his friend Josh Connor, which she denied,” they say.

They add, “If he wants to dive into something with Jewel then that’s his lookout, but to her it’s all very lame and reeks of a late life crisis or attention stunt. She does not want this woman anywhere near their kids – for the time being at least – and will make that very plain to Kevin. And she’s looking forward to seeing him with egg on his face once it all crashes and burns.”
Yellowstone actor Kevin met folk-turned-pop singer Jewel during a trip to Richard Branson’s Necker Island on Thanksgiving weekend last month. He was spotted with his arms wrapped around her waist as they attended a tennis fundraiser for the Inspiring Children Foundation, which was founded by 49-year-old Jewel.
Jewel gushed about “kind” Kevin on Instagram.
She wrote, “Every year, my foundation @inspiringchildren and I go to Necker Island to help host a tennis event w @richardbranson to raise funds for our kids…. @kevincostnermodernwest was kind enough to mentor our kids this year, and Sir Richard was his usual inspiring self- who also plays a mean game of doubles.”

After the trip, the tactile pair reportedly flew to the Caribbean together and spent over a week in each other’s company.
An insider says Christine – who married Kevin in 2004 and shares three children Cayden, 16; Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13 with the star – is livid about Kevin’s generosity in the his new relationship.
During divorce proceedings, the former couple fought over a disagreement over child support and accusations that handbag designer Christine cleared out their home of valuables before she moved out. They finally settled on Christine receiving around £50,000 a month for the children and £1.2million from his rumoured £320 million fortune, as per the conditions of their pre nuptial agreement. Kevin’s first wife, Cindy Silva, got a £64 million payout after they split in 1994.
The insider reveals that despite showing signs of frugality during his divorce. Kevin isn’t holding back on treating Jewel.
“Kevin is breaking out the big bucks to keep Jewel happy and spoiled during the honeymoon phase of the new romance,” they say.“It’s ironic because Kevin’s always been known as a major tightwad, but he’s now splurging on Jewel and paying for everything. He’s gotten her fancy jewellery, paid for the private jet travel and won’t even hear of her chipping in when the check comes – it’s a total 360 from how he acted with Christine and when he’s with friends.
“Jewel’s no gold digger, she’s got plenty of her own money despite some tough challenges in years gone by and doesn’t need his charity. But if he wants to spoil her like a princess she’s not complaining either!”
Earlier this year, Jewel – who has received four Grammy award nominations – claimed in a podcast that her estranged mother Lenedra embezzled almost $100m (£80m) from her, leaving her in debt at 34 years old.
She claimed her mother had access to her finances, which came from 30 million album sales worldwide, including her 12-times platinum 1995 debut album Pieces of You.
“I didn’t really realise what my mom was until I was 30-something. I woke up and realised she embezzled all of my money, over $100 million,” Jewel admitted.
“34 years old, realise I’m $3 million in debt, realise my mom stole it, realise everything I thought my mom was isn’t what she was, very difficult psychological thing to come to terms with.”

The star has been estranged from her mother since the early 2000s.
The insider says Kevin and Jewel are in the throes of a budding romance and are turning a blind eye to Christine’s negativity.
“Kevin and Jewel are super excited about this romance and not paying any attention to Christine’s bitching and sniping. He’s aware she’s rolling her eyes about it and predicting it’ll all end in tears but quite honestly he couldn’t care less. It’s not like they’ve been sneaking around for any length of time or before the divorce was finalised, he waited until all that was out the way and even then there wasn’t a rush to jump into the dating scene. Instead things just organically clicked with Jewel, who’s someone he’s known for a while but always seen as a friend and nothing more.”

They add, “It was only when their mutual connections led by Sir Richard Branson pointed out that they’d be a fantastic match did it occur to him that he should ask her out. So he did, she accepted right away and they’ve been having a blast ever since. That was a month or two back, then came the trip to Necker Island, and that’s when they went up a level and really decided to explore their feelings a lot further.
“Kevin’s saying he feels liberated and so much happier with this wonderful new lady in his life, he’s getting a lot of pleasure spoiling her and she’s not been crowded out or weirded out by it at all. She says Kevin’s a true gentleman who treats her like a princess, they’re just going with the flow and seeing where this very promising new journey takes them. It’s not like she needs to think about meeting Kevin’s kids right now, they’re enjoying time together just the two of them. But the more serious they get it’s inevitable he’ll want to introduce them – and there’s nothing Christine can realistically do about that.”
