Prince Harry and Meghan’s big Hollywood plans

AThe Duke and Duchess of Sussex have put their Malibu move on hold as they set their sights on living in Beverly Hills

They’re on the lookout for a brand new family home, but Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are at loggerheads over where to live and Meghan’s continual indecisiveness is driving Harry up the wall.
Last month, it was reported the pair could leave their luxurious £12.5mil estate in Montecito, California and head to Malibu to start a new chapter with their two children, Prince Archie, four and Princess Lilibet, two.
But Meghan, 42, has had a change of heart and sees their future in glamorous Hollywood instead, but her ‘flip flopping’ decision making is giving Harry, 38, a headache.
An insider says, “The Sussexes are having a terrible time finding a new home to move to as Meghan keeps changing her mind and Harry’s head spins from all her flip flopping and foot stamping.”
They add, “They were all set on Malibu, but Meghan’s now saying she wants to be in the thick of it near Beverly Hills or West Hollywood. For Harry this isn’t ideal, he would prefer to stay put in Montecito. But reluctantly agrees with Meghan that it’s the right thing to move.”

After stepping down as senior royals in 2020, the couple purchased a nine-bedroom Tuscan-style property in Montecito with rose gardens, a two-bedroom guesthouse, a tennis court, a summer house, a pool, and a chicken coop which they named ‘Archie’s Chicken Inn’. Earlier this year, Meghan revealed that their current home represents “calm and healing,” and makes her “feel free.”
But despite the serenity it offers, Meghan is ready to up sticks. At first, the couple were keen on buying a £6.3mil plot of land off the Pacific Coast Highway, with a huge mansion, a pool, guard house, seating terrace and fire-pit.
However, due to safety concerns over the paparazzi being able to access the area, the couple’s house buying plans have been put on ice. Instead, Meghan has her sights set on viewing exclusive properties in Los Angeles, which are closer to Hollywood royalty. The pair previously lived in Beverly edge Estates when they stayed at Tyler Perry’s mansion before moving to Montecito in June 2020.

The insider explains, “Harry was sold on Malibu as a compromise, but Meghan’s not willing to live in a $10m or even a $15m property there – for her that would look common by comparison to the big cliffside mansions owned by Cher, Barbra Streisand and other local royalty. She’s been back and forth dozens of times, giving their realtors the serious run-around and changing her mind constantly. With all the other stress in their life thrown in, it’s all too much.”
It’s not surprising that Meghan has had a change of heart. The former Suits actress began her slow US relaunch in April, signing with William Morris Endeavor –  the talent agency that has A Lister clients on their books, including Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, tennis star Serena Williams, Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas and Jessica Alba. She also recently hinted at upcoming projects with Harry’s production company, Archewell Productions, as she attended the Variety Power of Women event in Los Angeles.
“We have so many exciting things on the slate,” she told members of the press. “I can’t wait until we can announce them, but I’m just really proud of what we’re creating.”
But Harry wants to put the brakes on plans at the moment, especially after the recent hard-hitting headlines following the release of royal author’s Omid Scobie’s second bombshell book, Endgame three weeks ago.

The Dutch version of the publication controversially named King Charles and the Princess of Wales, Kate as the subject of a letter Meghan wrote to the King following her claims that the family had “concerns” over the skin colour of her unborn son with Harry. It came after an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, in which the Sussexes alleged an unnamed member of the royal family spoke about their son’s skin colour. Harry subsequently said there was no allegation of “racism”, but suggested there was possibly “unconscious bias” in the royal family.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said that they are “exploring all options” as to how best to tackle the situation, not ruling out legal action, and said it’s very much “business as usual” for King Charles.
Harry would like to take a step back from house-hunting for the rest of the year while things calm down, explains the insider.“Harry is telling Meghan there’s no sense in rushing this, he’d like them to get through the holidays first, let the dust settle on their various dramas and wait until early 2024 to see where they’re at and what they can reasonably afford. So many projects have either fizzled out or are still up in the air, so the last thing he wants is for them to over stretch themselves financially or commit to a certain part of town that might not be as convenient with what jobs they land.
“But for Meghan this is just dithering, she’s saying they have plenty of money to spend and it makes no sense to be stuck in the suburbs any longer than they can help it. She’s convinced herself that a lot of their problems career wise and socially have stemmed from the fact they’re effectively marooned over in Santa Barbara, as nice and serene as it is out there it’s just not the right place right now as far as a base.”

Former actress Meghan – who starred in Suits for seven series until 2017 – reconnect with old pals and make new ones as part of their big move.
“Moving into 2024, she plans on being out and about a lot more, wining and dining at the private members clubs in Hollywood and rubbing shoulders with the power players – and driving all the way from Ventura County, often stuck in traffic jams and taking up to three hours to get to meetings, well it just doesn’t work.  She wishes she’d trusted her gut when they were originally looking at homes in Bel-Air, Beverly Hills and other parts of West LA – but Harry argued in favour of Montecito and she wanted him to have a place that was more in keeping with what he’s used to.
“So she went along with it, but now enough’s enough and she wants to move out. The problem is, she can’t seem to make up her mind where! And Harry’s head is totally spinning with all this, he’s not sure how they’ll cope with a house move on top of all the other high stakes things they’re trying to juggle. Not to mention the cost and logistics of it all, he’s finding the whole process extremely difficult to deal with.”
