Alec Baldwin’s ‘hell on earth’ as he faces prison and bankruptcy

Alec’s life is thrown into disarray as he’s charged for a second time for a fatal prop gun shooting

After Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin was last week charged with a second time for involuntary manslaughter of the killing of a cinematographer on the set of a movie, his world has been turned upside down again, leaving his health, finances, and home life in utter turmoil.
An insider says, “Alec is beside himself over this, he’s in sheer panic and having horrible nightmares about getting beaten up or even killed if he ever ends up behind bars. He was diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder a few years ago and this has kicked all of his symptoms into high gear, he’s an absolute mess. It’s also done a real number on his finances. Between the lawyer bills and having to essentially put his work on hold, he’s now facing the very real prospect of going broke.

“They add he’s also put his £14.9 miliion Hampton mansion that he shares with his wife of 12 years Hilaria, 40, and their seven children on the market to help pay for legal costs. He’s desperate to unload it and pay these bills that keep piling up. Hilaria’s standing by him, but she’s incredibly high maintenance so who knows what will happen if he’s locked up, there’s just no telling how anyone copes with that. This is hell on earth for Alec, never in his life did he imagine he’d face the possibility of being a convicted felon, it’s horrifying for him,” they say.

Last week, US prosecutors accused Alec of involuntary manslaughter. It comes after the 65-year-old was rehearsing for the Western film Rust on set at a ranch near Santa Fe in New Mexico when his prop gun discharged, fatally striking Ukrainian-born Halyna Hutchins, 42 and wounding director Joel Souza.
Alec was practicing drawing the prop weapon from his holster when he claims it fired spontaneously. The Emmy-award winning actor, who is also a co-producer of the film, said at the time that he pulled back the gun’s hammer – but not the trigger. He has always insisted that he followed gun safety laws, and that the fault lies with the armorer or crew who handed him a gun loaded with a live round. He maintains he confirmed that the gun was ‘cold’ when he took it to rehearse the scene in question.

Prosecutors dropped similar charges against him in April last year. But after commissioning a forensic examination, they say they found the gun could only fire if the trigger was pulled. A new report by Lucien Haag of Forensic Science Services in Arizona says that the trigger ‘had to be pulled or depressed sufficiently to release the fully cocked or retracted hammer of the evidence revolver.’ Alec was charged with involuntary manslaughter on the grounds of negligent use of a firearm and disregard for others’ safety. If convicted, he faces up to 18 months in prison. The film’s armourer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, is also due on trial for involuntary manslaughter next month.
The insider says that Alec has been living in a panic-stricken fog for well over two years.
“He says it’s been more stress and misery than anyone should have to endure in several lifetimes. He truly believes he’s being victimised and hung out to dry because certain people in positions of legal authority want a scapegoat to pin the blame on for this horrific tragedy that he swears on a stack of Bibles was not his fault in any way, shape or form. He’s still vowing to fight this with everything he’s got until his final breath but there’s way less bravado and a lot more anxiety and panic.”

They add,  “He’s privately complaining that it’s like the Sword of Damocles hanging over his head, it’s like a dark cloud became a full blown hurricane that’s totally engulfed his life and turned everything upside down. Once in a while he’ll try to put on a positive display with cheerful or positive social media posts, and he pulls himself together when he’s with the kids for the most part. But deep down and certainly when he’s confiding to his closest friends Alec is a real mess. He’s terrified and saying over and over that he doesn’t know how the hell he would be able to survive prison.”
In 2021, Alex spoke about his ongoing battle with OCD.
“OCD is something I personally struggle with,” he said. “It’s through empathy, understanding, and being kinder to one another that we can finally remove the stigma and change the narrative.” Alec didn’t explain his symptoms in depth but noted that he experiences a fear of germs and intrusive thoughts. He added that he’s just now beginning to track them.
In 2017, he described an incident on his way to catch a flight. “I walked out of that house with almost crippling OCD. I’d be standing in the hallway of my apartment in New York, and the driver was downstairs, and I needed to get into the car now, right now, or I was going to miss my flight, and I’d be making sure that all the books were stacked neatly on the table in the entry hall of my apartment,” he explained.
“I’d be sitting there literally with my thumbs squeezing the books so all the seams were right and the books were stacked just so.”

Alec is said to be still traumatised by the events of that fateful day and struggling to process what happened to cinematographer Halyna. But he knows he has Hilaria’s full support.
“It’s something that will haunt and torment him his whole life. He’s been assured time and again by his lawyers that it’ll soon be over, told to hang in there and not to let any new setbacks get him down or destroy his faith in the judicial process,” the source says.
“But he’s finding it very hard to keep that hope now, with yet another case to fight and literally millions of dollars flying out of his bank account to pay lawyers.

“He’s had no option but to sell assets and regroup financially, so in addition to this sale his advisors are looking into the possibility of loans and taking out lines of credit. It’s just a nightmare, especially as his Hollywood career is essentially on hiatus right now – or his earning potential has been greatly reduced at best. And there’s no denying that Hilaria is high maintenance, there’s a huge amount going out every month on her needs as well as the kids.
“Alec has every faith in his marriage and he believes deep down that even if he did time then Hilaria would still stand by him. She’s told him that even if he was flat broke he’s always going to be her soul mate and a hero to the kids. Alec’s appreciates that, but his worst nightmare is that this will eventually be put to the test. And as bullish as he likes to act on the surface, there’s a growing dread that it could all come crashing down.”
