The shocking reason J-Lo and Ben haven’t announced their divorce yet

Jennifer hoped she and Ben could become ‘bigger than Beyonce and Jay-Z’

Jennifer Lopez has taken some time out for herself after the announcement that she had cancelled her US tour and amid rife reports that she and Ben Affleck are headed for a divorce less than just two years after finally tying the knot.

The 54-year-old was spotted enjoying a solo holiday on Italy’s Amalfi Coast, visiting the towns of Positano and Sorrento before throwing herself back into work mode and heading to Paris for Fashion Week.

Jennifer and Ben, 51, married in July 2022, 19 years after they called off their first wedding. They officially split in January 2004 and went on to have other relationships, with Jennifer marrying Marc Anthony in 2004 and Ben marrying Jennifer Garner in 2005, and both couples welcoming children. They confirmed they had rekindled their romance in July 2021.

And while all signs seem to be clearly pointing to the fact and Jennifer’s marriage to Ben is over, fans of the couple are wondering why it is taking so long for them to announce their divorce.

A source tells Closer that the pair are working with lawyers to finalise the terms of their divorce – but they are first trying to untangle their business dealings after putting a lot of money into their lost dream of conquering Hollywood together.

The insider says, “They’ve sunk a fortune into building up this joint brand, so much time and money has been spent preparing all these different projects that they were both so gung ho on just a few months ago and now it’s pretty well all down the drain because everything was based on their Bennifer brand.

“The movie they produced together starring J.Lo is already shot and in post-production so the question now is how they’re going to promote that, if they’ll even promote it together which was of course the original plan. That isn’t the only creative project they were planning together, they were privately funding certain projects they really believed in and had all kinds of things lined up, and now they’re having to pull out which is letting a lot of people down and leaving a ton of money on the table.

“But beyond that there were all these product plans, she was even working on their own homeware line, which is obviously not going forward now, so all the time and energy on legal fees and design are a total wash. So many investments are now having to be dissolved and that’s a big part of why this is taking so long, despite the fact that it’s very much over. It’s obviously partly down to the kids and the sensitivity they have to show, but they’ve also got to detangle this money situation. She really thought they were going to be the biggest power couple in Hollywood and to be fair they really could have been if they’d stuck together. But now they’re walking away from billions, or so she’s saying.”

Jennifer’s next movie, Unstoppable, which has been produced by Ben and fellow actor Matt Damon’s production company, Artists Equity, currently has no official release date, but is due to hit screens later this year.

Speaking about the project in last year, Ben said, “What fun, what a joy to do something with her, see her be great, go to work with your wife, go to work with your best friend. If you don’t like who you’re working with, and if you have difficulty or trouble at work, I think it’s one of the things that can really cause depression, anxiety and pain for people — and conversely, [if] you love the people at work.”

The autobiographical movie will tell the story of wrestler Anthony Robles, who was born with one leg. Moonlight’s Jharrel Jerome will play the main character, while Bobby Cannavale, Don Cheadle and Michael Peña will complete the cast.

The source adds, “Yes, there are big costs to untangling everything between the two of them but the real frustration for her is the many millions of dollars they’re now going to be missing out on. She’s convinced their combined net worth would have skyrocketed in no-time if Ben could have just kept his act together, instead of getting all flaky and running away because he couldn’t work through a little conflict with her.

“In J.Lo’s vision she and Ben had the potential to make a fortune in all sorts of industries, even sports. When she was with A-Rod she was seriously looking into buying a baseball team and when they split up, she essentially just changed that plan to include Ben instead. She had so many money-making ideas for the two of them. Everything from fashion lines, to his and hers beauty products, to different tech investments. She was even looking into them buying a vineyard and turning out their own wines the way Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt did.

“She really believed that with their combined talents and connections the sky was the limit. Her plan was that they’d be bigger than Beyonce and Jay-Z, so having to adjust her expectations has been extremely tough. The majority of the plans depended on them going in together, there are a few things she can still do on her own, but for the most part they’re invested as a couple, so now there are all sorts of provisional contracts that need to be dissolved and decisions that have to be made as far as who will cover what. That sort of thing is never easy and requires tons of back and forth with lawyers because of course everyone wants to get paid.

“She’s doing her best to stay positive and is telling people she’s got no doubt she’ll bounce back, it’s not as though she’s sitting there in the poor house, but she really is back to square one when it comes to building this super brand of her dreams with the guy she thought was the love her life. But clearly that’s not happening and she’s doing her best to accept it and move on.”
