After Hailey’s accused of blowing his millions, is Justin Bieber going broke?
The couple’s spending habits are said to be catching up to them
Despite being worth $300m, the Biebers are feeling the pinch
He’s a global superstar worth an estimated $300 million, but Justin Bieber is reportedly running out of cash thanks to his and his wife’s lavish spending habits.
Sources close to the singer have revealed that he and pregnant wife Hailey have been splurging more than they can afford – and they’re now suffering the consequences.
“Justin is worth an absolute fortune, but that doesn’t mean he has unlimited resources. Plenty of famous folks have burned through hundreds of millions and ended up broke, so it’s totally understandable that there’s some concern for Justin, just based on his spending habits compared to what he’s bringing in,” an insider reveals. “He and Hailey live such a lavish lifestyle, they spend money like they have it pouring in, when in reality the bulk of their fortune is from work that they’ve already completed.”
The couple are used to a lavish lifestyle
Last month, Justin, 30, jetted off to Mumbai to perform at a pre-wedding party for the billionaire son of India’s richest man – reportedly cashing in $10million for the gig – before flying back home to California just hours later. But with such a comfortable net worth, questions have been raised about the state of his finances after he chose to take time away from his expectant wife to attend the event.
While he was once raking it in, Justin, who shot to fame at the age of 13, hasn’t released a new album since 2021, and he hasn’t toured since his Justice world tour in 2022. However, he cancelled the remaining dates of the tour after suffering a bout of facial paralysis caused by Ramsay Hunt syndrome, telling fans he was making a “health priority”. He said that shows in Europe had “taken a real toll on me” and he needed more time to “rest and get better”.
Justin recently flew to Mumbai for a very well-paid gig
In January 2023, he also sold the rights to his 291-song back catalog to music investment company Hipgnosis Songs Capital. His longtime manager, Scooter Braun, said in a statement, “Justin is truly a once in a generation artist and that is reflected and acknowledged by the magnitude of this deal. For 15 years I have been grateful to witness this journey and today I am happy for all those involved. Justin’s greatness is just beginning.”
Traditionally, music artists sell their catalogs near the end of their careers to help expense their lifestyle as they step back from the spotlight. It was reported that Justin was “advised against selling it” but Hailey, 27, “played a part in convincing him”.
Our source explains, “Justin sold his music catalog for $200 million, which is a huge sum, but it also means he won’t be getting royalties on any of that going forward. Sure, he can go on tour to bring in the bucks, but he cancelled his last tour and so far, there’s no set date for a new one. And it’s no secret that he struggles when he’s out on the road for long stretches so no one in his life wants to push him. It’s conceivable that he may never do a large-scale tour again, which is even more reason for him to watch his spending.”
Hailey and Justin are expecting their first child together soon
Justin and Hailey, who tied the knot in 2018 after a whirlwind engagement, renewed their wedding vows in Hawaii back in May, with Hailey revealing her pregnancy at the same time. Justin also gifted her an upgraded engagement ring – estimated to cost $1.5million – to go alongside her original. After rumours about the size of the sparkler, Hailey, who has an estimated net worth of $20million, said, “Actually, this is only one carat bigger. It’s just elongated.” It was claimed at the time that Justin “was initially against buying the ring” but Hailey “told him that she had to have it to renew their vows” and “in the end she got what she wanted”.
Our source adds that the couple struggle to live within their means after enjoying luxuries all their lives. “The problem is he’s never really had to stick to a budget, and he doesn’t seem to have any concept of it, and neither does Hailey. She has her own money too, but just like with Justin, it’s not unlimited and they both spend like it is,” the insider explains. “They take private jets everywhere at the drop of a hat, they have multiple properties they own that require massive amounts of money every month just on up-keep and on top of that they spend hundreds of thousands every month just on rental properties, and about as much on all their staff. Their security bill is a massive expense, which no one would argue with since they’re so high profile, but then when you look at all the other staff they have on the payroll, it starts to get ridiculous.”
The pair may have to start cutting back on their expenses
However, it’s been claimed that Justin and Hailey were recently forced to take a commercial flight due to their financial woes. A separate source revealed in June, “While they always fly private, Justin simply couldn’t afford it this time. He spends more money than he’s got coming in, and is now having to cut back on certain luxuries.”
And as they prepare to welcome their first child, pals are hoping they continue with more sensible choices. “No one is saying they need to live like the average Joe, but if they want to maintain their wealth in the long-term there is no doubt that they need to reign in their spending,” says our source.
“Either that, or they need to get out and earn more, which is why Justin just flew to India to perform at a wedding for $10million. The last thing he wanted to do was leave Hailey at home pregnant to go across the world for a paycheck, but it was a smart financial move, and the hope is that now that he’s becoming a dad, he will start thinking more long term.”
