For almost three decades, Hugh Jackman and Deborra Lee-Furness were praised by fans as having one of the most ‘real’ marriages in Hollywood after navigating the trials and tribulations of fame together during their 27 year marriage.

Named the ‘golden couple of Australia’, many were left stunned when the couple announced their shock split last May, vowing that they would enter the new chapter of their lives with ‘gratitude, love and kindness’.

But now a year on and the dust has far from settled on their broken marriage, with Deborra appearing to make a huge U-turn in her and Hugh’s seemingly amicable divorce when, last week, she made a statement referencing ‘betrayal’.

The actress, 69, told the Daily Mail, ‘My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal. It’s a profound wound that cuts deep, however I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us..

She continued, ‘This belief has helped me navigate the breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage. I have gained much knowledge and wisdom through this experience. Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose.

‘It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values and boundaries is liberation and freedom.’

Her statement came just four days after Deborra officially filed for divorce in New York – a legality that has reportedly been delayed due to the former couple, who are parents to children Oscar, 25 and Ava, 19, not being able to agree on how to split his $250 million fortune.

However, her statement has now sent the rumours that Hugh, 56, had been involved in an affair with his now-girlfriend, actress Sutton Foster, 50, ahead of their split, to fever pitch.

One fan wrote, ‘Team Deb I used to think lucky woman but not anymore. Showed his true colours. 27 years. Good luck,’ while another added, ‘He is a snakey sneak, hope she gets at least half of everything!’

Insiders have since clarified that Debrorra suspected that he had been involved in an ‘emotional affair’ with Sutton, whom he met whilst starring in the play ‘The Music Man’ back in 2022, but added that she had still felt ‘betrayed’ by the beginnings of their now blossoming romance.

And after insiders reported that Hugh had been left ‘heartbroken’ by Debrorra’s bombshell statement, a source now tells us the Deadpool actor now fears this could be just the beginning, and that Deborra could share all of his deepest secrets.

An insider says, ‘Deb has kept completely quiet and been very discreet mainly out of respect for the kids and her own self-respect and peace, and she remained dignified during the tricky negotiations, but now the deal is done, by all accounts, and if she wants to speak out, she can.

‘She knows everything about Hugh from his humble beginnings and his rise to fame, to his ambitions and insecurities. She has a good mind to tell people the way it was with Hugh in their marriage, too.

‘It worries him to no end that she could one day turn on him and embarrass the hell out of him and potentially ruin his reputation in the process.’

This sudden shift in their relationship comes after insiders revealed that Deborra had received a ‘handsome spousal support payment’, with both parties reportedly determined to have ‘no drama’ throughout the messy process of hashing out their divorce.

‘They have worked out the details in advance and everything is ironed out in terms of a settlement…They are amicable and they are both fully committed to being the best parents that they can be,’ a source said at the time.

But timing could be everything when it comes to gaining an insight into how Deborra is feeling, and her divorce filing came at a time when rumours began circulating that Hugh was set to move in with Sutton.

Just days before the filing, Hugh was also photographed strolling hand-in-hand with his new love, with the couple looking seriously loved up.

While Hugh went public with his relationship with Sutton in January – 16 months after his split from Deborra – Sutton also divorced her husband of 10 years, Screenwriter Ted Griffin, in October last year.

Yet hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, and our source says Deborra is adamant that she has some scores to settle after supporting Hugh’s career for so long.

They tell us, ‘Fact is, now that the money is in the bank she’s holding all the cards and she’s enjoying that power. She suffered so much heartache when they split, it would only be natural to want to hit back.

‘It’s not just the way Hugh ended the marriage that upsets her, it’s also the way she’s been cast aside and painted as this fringe figure in Hugh’s success story, when she actually propped him up for decades.

‘After all, she knows the real man behind the curtain, not the squeaky clean image he’s always trying to put on.’

And our source says Hugh, in turn, now feels ‘betrayed’ by the woman he has previously said he knew was The One just two weeks after first meeting her back in 1995.

They say, ‘Hugh is already in knots over the very mild statement Debs made after the divorce was finalised. He wasn’t expecting that and he’s been complaining to everyone they know how ‘betrayed’ he feels, which Debs thinks is pretty rich considering the way he betrayed her.

‘And if he thinks his whining is making her feel bad he’s sorely mistaken. If anything it’s got her wanting to speak out more because she’s so incensed at his total lack of accountability.’

It has been reported that Deborra plans to write a tell-all biography about her ‘ugly roller-coaster divorce’ and is said to be just waiting for the go-ahead from her legal advisors.

Now our source adds, ‘She gave up so much for him, and while she’s not interested in a scorched-earth tell-all right now, the offers have been pouring in, and her friends wouldn’t be surprised if she eventually takes one, as a way to reclaim her narrative.

‘That’s got Hugh terrified so now he’s desperately trying to mend fences with her. At this point the only thing stopping her is her love for the kids. She cares more about them than getting revenge on Hugh so ultimately they may be his saving grace.

‘But at this stage anything is possible so he’s right to be worried.’
