Celebrating her 53rd birthday next month, Sofia Vergara has proved time and time again that beauty is ageless.

The Modern Family actress continues to be fawned over by millions of fans and has been named everything from ‘the sexiest woman in the world’ to the ‘hottest’ and the ‘most beautiful’ actress of all time.

So it has come as a surprise to many that the newly single star is still on the lookout for her Prince Charming, having been engaged three times and married twice, to her childhood sweetheart Joe Gonzalez, with whom she shares son Manolo, 33, and actor Joe Manganiello, whom she split with in 2023. 

And following her break up from Hollywood orthopaedic surgeon Justin Saliman early last year, it appeared that Sofia was officially off the dating market again when she was pictured enjoying an intimate dinner in New York with Formula One driver, Lewis Hamilton, 40, in January.

But it was revealed just two months later in March that their brief romance was ‘over’ with insiders reporting that Sofia, who is said to have seen Lewis as ‘the perfect boyfriend and a great catch’ had been left ‘heartbroken’ and feeling ‘abandoned’ when his interest in her waned. 

Sources at the time revealed that Sofia had tried to stay in touch with the very eligible bachelor, but that ‘communication had been one-sided.’ 

Now a source tells us that, while men are blown away by Sofia’s beauty, the Columbian actress – who was spotted earlier this month with a new ‘rebound’ boyfriend’ – is fast gaining a reputation for being a little too ‘self-obsessed’ when it comes to dating. 

The insider says, ‘It’s no surprise Lewis took a hike. It’s the same old story when she goes on a date. By all accounts, Lewis did not want to stick around for long. It’s not like she’s a bad person, but people around her feel she needs to care a little less about herself.

‘The truth is that a lot of the guys who date her say the same thing – she’s self-centred, quite demanding, and critical of them and everything around her.’ 

However, Sofia’s reputation as a diva didn’t appear to deter the new suitor who she was first spotted with at a hotel in Cannes last week, before the apparent couple then moved on to the Monaco Grand Prix, where they awkwardly posed outside of Lewis’ Ferrari garage. 

And now the source says Sofia’s ‘revenge’ move has been seen by insiders as yet another bid to put herself first. 

They say, ‘Sofia was obviously aware of what she was doing and that was making it all about herself and flaunting a new romance with a mystery man to show up an ex. 

‘Whoever this new guy is, pals fear it’s going to last. Sofia’s ex-husband Joe was clear on how difficult she was even though he stuck around as long as he could. 

‘Yes, she’s incredibly gorgeous and successful, but pals fear that if she doesn’t start checking her ego, it’s hard to imagine she’ll find what she’s looking for.’ 

After marrying her childhood sweetheart Joe Gonzalez in 1990, almost two decades before she found superstardom as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in the ABC sitcom, Modern Family, in 2009, Sofia welcomed their son Manolo – who she decided to raise as a single mum after splitting with Joe in 1993. 

She was rumoured to have enjoyed brief flings with Enrique Iglesias and Tom Cruise before her next high profile romance with multi-millionaire businessman, Nick Loeb, 49. The pair dated for four years and were engaged in 2012 before their 2014 split. 

However, their seemingly amicable split has since been blighted by their decade long battle over the embryos they had frozen during their romance. Nick fought to use a surrogate and raise them alone, while Sofia did not want to become a mother again outside of a ‘loving relationship’. In 2021, a judge ruled in Sofia’s favour, dismissing the case.

A year after their split in 2015, Sofia found love again with True Blood actor Joe, 48, marrying him later that year. The couple split in 2023. 

At the time, Sofia revealed their marriage breakdown had  been due to Joe wanting children – something he has strongly denied – but insiders have also suggested they had grown apart because Sofia wanted to have more ‘fun’ in life. 

And not one to shy away from speaking directly, Sofia also admitted that she was looking to date a rich man. 

She said of her ‘dream man’ last month, ‘I want to say the basic stuff, like health and somebody that loves me…And somebody tall, handsome. I want somebody that has as much money as me or more, because if not, it’s a nightmare. They end up resenting you.’

But the source says Sofia’s pals fear that trying to tick every box could mean that Sofia misses out on finding love. 

They say, ‘It’s seriously limiting. It doesn’t help that she’s so incredibly wealthy because it tends to make men feel emasculated and that’s a huge turn off for her. 

‘She’s very open about the fact that she only wants to date men that have as much money as she does, or more, which means she’s having to narrow her dating pool to only men that have $200 million plus in the bank.

‘On top of that she doesn’t want any old rich bachelor, she wants a man that looks good on her arm and is willing to be faithful to her.’ 

And while Sofia may be attracted to millions in the bank, there is no denying that a number of high-profile Hollywood men are increasingly attracted to younger women. 

Joe has since moved on with actress and model Caitlin O’Connor, who at 34 is 14 years younger than him, while Tom Cruise, 62, is rumoured to be dating Ana de Armas, 37.

Now the source adds, ‘Sofia’s in her 50’s now, the harsh reality is that she’s asking for a whole lot, especially considering how high-maintenance she can be. They’re usually just as ego driven as she is. 

‘As stunning as she is, that’s a tall order for the types of men she’s going after. Fact is, they have their pick of women too. And unfortunately most of these types of men are very noncommittal, and when they do finally settle down they usually go for younger women.’ 

Now the insider says Sofia’s friends are encouraging her to look beyond ‘her type on paper’ if she truly does want to find true love. 

The source says, ‘They are trying to encourage her to go for someone more grounded, and maybe not so rich, but Sofia’s not hearing it and they worry she could miss out on the ‘real thing’. 

‘She has plenty of great qualities but the feeling among her inner circle is that she needs to dial back her expectations and focus on finding a man with real depth, not just good looks and a big bank balance.’
