Could this Oscar-winning actress be ready to be a mom again – at 58?

After adopting her first two children, sources say Nicole Kidman is considering doing it all again

She is a mum of four, but Nicole Kidman has been open about her wishes of adding more children to her brood – and a source tells Closer that she and her husband Keith Urban could be considering adoption to fill their family with more love.

Nicole, 58, is already mum to Bella, 32, and Connor, 30, who she adopted with ex-husband Tom Cruise, and Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14, who she shares with country singer Keith, 57.

Our source says that the couple have been toying with the idea of more children for years, and they’re thinking about filling their family with more love sooner rather than later. The source says, ‘They’ve gone back and forth on it for so long, but they do want to take the leap and make this dream a reality. Nicole has been saying for years that she wants another child, and that hasn’t changed. If anything, with her kids now so grown, that desire has only gotten stronger because she misses having little ones around the house.

‘Nicole is very clear that as much as she loves her work, what gives her the most joy is being a mom and at this stage in her life adoption is what would make the most sense. Keith is on board with it, he loves being a dad and loves the shared sense of purpose he and Nicole get from parenting together. Plus, he lives to make her happy and this is something she really wants. Nicole and Keith are still so in love, and they’re both still full of energy so they’re not worried about age, plenty of people adopt later in life, and they know they would be able to give a child a beautiful life if they were to go ahead with it.’

Nicole has been very vocal about her love of children over the years – saying back in 2021 that she would have loved to have had 10 kids – but has also been very open about her fertility struggles. She emotionally said during a 2020 interview, ‘Anyone that’s been in the place of wanting another child or wanting a child knows the disappointment, the pain and the loss that you go through trying and struggling with fertility.’ While Nicole carried Sunday, Faith was born via surrogate in 2010. Her name has a sweet meaning and is inspired by how her parents ‘never gave up faith they’d have another child.’

Nicole is no stranger to adoption but has been stung by her adopted children following her divorce from ex-husband Tom in 2001. Bella and Connor have primarily lived with Tom since the split, growing up within the Church of Scientology – the controversial movement which describes itself as a religion and Tom follows. While Bella still uses Kidman Cruise as a surname, Connor only uses Cruise. While they have not been seen in public with their mum since 2007, the pair were reported to have penned a handwritten letter to Nicole last September following the death of her own mother Janelle.

A source told Australian magazine Women’s Day at the time, ‘It’s kind of sad it took such a tragic moment to bring them back into her life, but she knows it would make her mum so happy if her passing brought her estranged grandkids back into the family.’

And our source adds that, although they are closer to their dad, Bella and Connor’s relationship with Nicole has become stronger over time. They say, ‘Adoption has always appealed to Nicole, it’s something she feels strongly drawn to. It’s no secret she went through a difficult period with Connor and Bella after her divorce from Tom, because they sided with him, but her love for them never wavered. And the great news is that they’ve really turned things around in recent years and are close again. But there’s no doubt that was a really painful situation for her, so a lot of her friends feel that if she were to adopt again, it would be almost a chance for a do-over.’

Nicole rarely discusses her marriage to Tom, who she met in 1989 when they filmed Days of Thunder, getting married on Christmas Eve in 1990 when Nicole was aged 23. The pair announced their separation in February 2001.

But in a rare moment of reflection on her first marriage, Nicole said in 2012, ‘I got married really fast and really young. But I don’t regret that because it got me Bella and Connor and I did have a fantastic marriage for a long period.’

Our source concludes, ‘Now she’s in a happy, supportive marriage and has complete stability at home. She and Keith are such hands-on parents, and anyone who knows them can see how much joy they get from raising their daughters. Even with their insanely busy careers, family is the center of their world. Friends think it would be incredibly healing for Nicole to adopt again, under such different circumstances. They’ve both got the time and the heart for it. Keith is more than happy to schedule his tours around daddy duty, he did it when the girls were younger and he’s totally up to do it again. Nicole’s also got the power to slow down working whenever she chooses, it’s really just a matter of having something else that she wants to devote herself to.

‘No doubt some people think they’re too far along in life to be starting over with a baby, but Nicole’s close friends say that couldn’t be further from the truth. She’s vibrant, nurturing, and full of energy and Keith’s the same. Their home is filled with warmth, music, and love, it would be a dream for any child. Everyone close to them is excited and supportive about the prospect.’
