You would think that Meghan Markle would have her hands more than full being a working mum of two and having just launched her new lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard – but it seems that’s not stopping her from a second attempt at weighing in on US politics after seemingly failing to impress the Obamas previously.

It is reported that Meghan, 42, and her husband Prince Harry’s Archewell Foundation is amongst Hollywood political players supporting an initiative to persuade American voters to take a stand against the rise in use of AI imagery and misinformation. In fact, it is believed that the Archewell Foundation is helping brainstorm new content specifically for the campaign.

And a source tells Closer that this is just one step in Meghan’s plan to befriend the current First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden, 72.

The insider says, “She figures any help she can offer with the election will be appreciated and, of course, she knows a generous donation would sweeten the deal and get her on a first-name basis. She’s getting the message out on her website and among her powerful connections.

“She’s got a lot of confidence now that her mum, Doria, has made connections with Beyonce and her mum Tina and Kris Jenner too. Meghan’s convinced it’s a good time to make her move and that Jill will open the door and allow her to get a jump on politics down the road and make her the first royal American politician.”

And it seems that this is a plan that has been in motion for a while, with Meghan accelerating her ambition following the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

“It’s true she and Harry were refused a ride on Air Force One with the Bidens after the queen’s funeral,” the source continued. “But they don’t blame Jill and Joe for that. That was someone’s fault at the White House. They certainly don’t bear any grudges. Meghan’s goal is to have a direct line to their cell phones, and she won’t stop until she gets it.”

But Meghan isn’t deterred by the mishap and seems more determined to befriend the powerful couple than ever.

The source adds, “Meghan and Harry have been chipping away at the Bidens for some years now, they’ve always felt there’s a connection there to be built upon, it’s just been a question of timing and opportunity. That’s why Meghan has regularly sent Jill gifts and handwritten notes.”

Meghan had initially set her sights on impressing Michelle Obama, hoping her efforts would lead to a relationship with her and her husband, former president Barack. But it was reported in Tom Bower’s 2022 biography Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors, that her attempt actually “alarmed” the former First Lady.

Our source continues, “She did the same thing with Michelle Obama, both she and Harry tried so hard to forge a bond with her and Barack, but it never really worked, and they’ve more or less moved on. Instead, they’ve set their sights on building a relationship with the Bidens.

“And as it’s election year they’ve let Jill and Joe know they’re ready and willing to help with the campaign any way that they can.”

Needless to say, Meghan and Harry’s willing for Joe Biden to be elected for a second time doesn’t totally stem their hopes for a friendship with the Bidens, and they genuinely want to see Joe beat Donald Trump for a second time, as our source explains, “Meghan and Harry are both staunch democrats so naturally they’re hoping Joe gets elected for political reasons, but there’s also a very personal angle for them in all of this because they’re well aware that Donald Trump has something of a vendetta against them and has encouraged his fans who are trying to get Harry booted out of America.

“It’s quite scary that he’s now gunning for the White House again and has definitely motivated Meghan and Harry to do even more to help Joe win this. They both feel he’s the best man for the job and they’re hopeful the voters will put him back in the Oval Office and when that happens, they want to be among his circle of friends.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen the ex-royal couple try to encourage Americans to sign up to vote and reject misinformation – something that working members of the royal family are not supposed to do. But their last attempt in 2020 was less than successful, with Republicans going as far as calling on the royal family to strip the couple of their titles.

But Meghan is even more determined this time around, believing that the future of her and Harry swimming in A-list circles could rely on them forging a relationship with the Bidens.

“Having connections in high places is imperative to them, for their egos and their bank accounts,” our source adds. “Their whole image is that they’re now a part of the American elite, but they need the friendships and the photo ops to back that up.

“Getting in tight with the President and First Lady is a part of their strategy to promote their brand. There’s no denying they’re very disappointed that they appear to have lost so much support from powerful people, not just political players like the Obamas, but also A-listers like the Beckhams. They have other supporters for sure, but the lack of inclusion by the Hollywood elite has been pretty glaring. That’s why they’re desperate to bring the Bidens on board, it would be a huge boost for their brand and the hope is that it would lead to more networking opportunities in the future.”

And could those opportunities lead to a future in the White House for Meghan herself? It’s been said she has refused to rule out a future in politics, with a friend previously stating that one of the reasons she didn’t give up her American citizenship when marrying into the royal family was to “keep open the option of entering politics.”

Our source concludes, “It’s no secret that Meghan has a very keen interest in politics and she does fully intend to get involved in an official capacity down the line, so who better to mentor and nurture her than Joe and Jill? Building a good relationship with them is a no brainer.”
