Appearing in high spirits when he made his first public appearance since his devastating diagnosis in 2022 to thank firefighters amidst the LA wildfires in January, fans fear Bruce Willis’s health may have taken a downward turn last week when his wife, Emma Hemming Willis, revealed she has been left ‘heartbroken’.

Now, after celebrating his 70th birthday in March amidst his devastating battle with a form of dementia, an insider tells us how the proud husband and dad of five is ensuring that when the time comes when he may not have the capacity to organise his affairs, he is admirably ensuring that ‘his girls’ will never go without.

Bruce has been married to model Emma, 46, since 2009 – with whom he shares daughters Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11 – and he remains close to his wife of 13 years, actress Demi Moore, 62, with the former couple welcoming three daughters, Rumer, 36, Scout, 33, and Tallulah Willis, 31.

Labelled the ‘ultimate girl dad’, our source now says, ‘It’s always been so important to Bruce that he set up all his girls for life and he’s absolutely accomplished that.

‘It’s not a topic anyone wants to talk about, it gets them all very emotional to even consider life after Bruce. But there’s no doubt his forethought and hard work will be a blessing for his family for many years, and even generations, to come.’

They add, ‘It’s something Bruce is very proud of. He’s the ultimate Alpha-male, he loves to take care of his loved ones and his people, so it’s really beautiful that he’ll leave that sort of legacy.’

After breaking into acting in 1980 with his first movie, The First Deadly Sin, Bruce’s raspy voice, good looks and unique abilities saw him become the ultimate real-life action hero when he landed the role of NYC Detective John McClane in 1988 – a standout role that would see him go on to make five Die Hard films.

The role also led to Bruce – who was also starring in iconic comedy series Moonlighting at the time – reportedly earning over $100 million dollars in the first few years of his career, making him one of the highest-paid actors of all time.

Bruce, whose net worth is an estimated $250 million, went on to make over 100 films, before poignantly filming his last action movie, Assassin, in 2021, the year before he was forced to retire following his shock diagnosis.

Bruce was diagnosed with aphasia – a condition affecting the brain’s ability to understand or express language – in 2022, before his family revealed a new diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia in 2023.

The condition is sadly neuro-degenerative and attacks brain cells which control language, behaviour and personality.

Now the insider says, ‘As uncertain as Bruce’s future may seem because of his medical diagnosis, Emma at least has the peace of mind that comes from the fact that their family will always be taken care of and Bruce was especially careful with his massive fortune over the last fifteen years or so.

‘He never splurged on wild real estate deals or risky investments, he insisted on constantly working, and during his prime years, he had a very competent team looking after his interests and watching every penny.’

They add, ‘His and Emma’s kids will be fine and so will his and Demi Moore’s children. There’s going to be plenty for everybody because even in retirement, Bruce’s fortune has grown. Nobody is losing sleep about money in that family, even as they constantly worry about Bruce’s physical condition and need to look after him 24/7.’

Bruce has been surrounded by love since his diagnosis, with his family happy to share updates with his supportive fans.

Posting a poignant video of her mum Demi and dad laughing at dancing together to celebrate Bruce’s birthday on 19th March, Rumer told fans, ‘He’s doing great, thank you for asking, it’s actually his birthday today so please wish my papa a Happy Birthday’.

Emma, too, has spoken candidly about her journey as a caregiver to Bruce, becoming an advocate for carers around the globe with her honesty through the good and the bad.

Following a family trip earlier this month, she bravely wrote on Instagram last week, ‘Walking down memory lane, looking at old photos. Laughing. Crying. Smiling. My heart is full and yet so broken. Both can exist.’

Tallulah also spoke out about her beloved father in September last year, saying, ‘He’s stable which, in this situation, is good.’

However, getting candid about the uncertainty of the devastating disease, she added, ‘It’s hard. There are painful days, but there’s so much love. And it’s really shown me to not take any moment for granted and I really do think that we’d be best friends. I think he’s very proud of me.’

Bruce, Demi and Emma have always been incredibly proud of their blended family, and now the source says Bruce has worked for decades to ensure they are all able to continue to live their lives to the fullest.

The source says, ‘Bruce has always been a big provider, none of his kids or wives or anyone in his life has ever wanted for a thing. He was one of the highest paid stars in the nineties and early 2000’s and he was known for his generosity.

‘It’s not as though his kids with Demi have nothing, they’ve all been successful in their own right, but they certainly haven’t earned enough to live at the A-list level that their parents have set them up with. And after he remarried and had more kids and had two families to support he got even more motivated to earn the big bucks.’

However, the source says that for Bruce’s family, money is of course the last thing on their minds as they plan to spend as much time with him as possible.

The source says, ‘For now though everyone is just focused on celebrating and enjoying every moment they can with him. They’re so happy that he’s still hanging on but they also know the prognosis. No moment is being taken for granted.’
