They were a fairytale romance that was 20 years in the making. But Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s marriage came crashing down after just two years – and now the pair are at loggerheads over the singer’s new music.

Earlier this month, J.Lo, 55, debuted six new songs at an exclusive listening party for 30 of her fans – and one track, titled Wreckage of You, appeared to reference her divorce from Ben.

And now sources tell Closer that while the star has found closure in releasing the track, her lyrics have angered her actor ex, 52.

‘J.Lo’s happy to be singing her truth – she’s totally unapologetic and convinced this will be a launchpad for a whole new musical chapter,’ they say. ‘And if it upsets Ben, then all the better. But for him, this is a step too far. The last thing he needs right now is friends asking him how he feels about J.Lo’s revenge song lyrics. All Ben wants is to move on and forget the marriage ever happened, but J.Lo’s going out of her way to make things awkward and miserable. He’s getting the impression she wants to punish him until the end of time – especially with their nightmare house scenario still rumbling on and costing him a fortune.’

Batman star Ben and J.Lo met on the set of Gigli in 2002, and enjoyed a brief relationship and engagement, before calling time on their romance two years later. While the Let’s Get Loud singer went on to have a ten-year marriage to Marc Anthony – to whom she shares 17-year-old twins Max and Emme – Ben was wed to Jennifer Garner for 13 years. The couple are co-parents to Violet, 19, Fin, 16, and 13-year-old Samuel.

Fans went wild back in April 2021, when Bennifer were first rumoured to have rekindled their two-decade old romance – and eventually tied the knot just over a year later. 
But just two years into their marriage, J.Lo filed for divorce – which was finalised 20 weeks later in January 2025.

So it’s no wonder J.Lo is channelling her heartache into her art. 

One fan told how J.Lo had revealed the inspiration behind Wreckage of You at her listening party. They said the Jenny From the Block singer admitted how she ‘kept thinking of the word “wreck” because it means destruction, but she wasn’t destroyed. In fact, the lyrics of the song are, “I’m stronger after the wreckage of you”.’

The fan went on, ‘Wreckage of You is a pop ballad that J.Lo told us she co-wrote and recorded two weeks ago. She said she was lying in bed after a long day of tour rehearsals when the idea of the song came to her. J.Lo mentioned how last year was a very difficult time for her both personally and professionally. She had to cancel her tour and really focus on herself.’

Another attendee added that the song is a ‘very emotional, empowering song about walking away from a relationship and coming out a stronger person’.

The source continues, ‘Ben fears this is the tip of the iceberg and that J.Lo will continue to bash him with catty song lyrics – especially as it’s getting so much attention. It’s so infuriating, but there’s nothing he can do. J.Lo’s well within her rights to sing her heart out and take digs at whomever she wants in the process. His only option is to suck it up and hope finds someone else to fixate over – but that’s unlikely to happen any time soon, as Ben is the only person J.Lo has a major axe to grind with.

They go on, ‘J.Lo’s really buzzing off the feedback for this song. Her friends are saying it’s high time she stood up for herself and made Ben squirm. They’re encouraging her to hit him with both barrels, and the fan feedback has been incredibly positive, too. It was extremely cathartic as well as professionally fulfilling for J.Lo, and now her focus is recording more of the same.

‘The big question is just how far she’s willing to go – and if she’s prepared to delve deeper into the lowest points of the relationship, and tell the world just how badly she was screwed over. For someone as fiercely private as Ben, that’s the ultimate nightmare and he’s pacing around in a major panic. He thinks she’s being childish and ridiculous, but people are warning him to bite his lip and not poke the bear. It’s his turn to suffer – and J.Lo’s loving every second of it!’

To make matters worse, earlier this month, the former couple were also forced to take their $60 million (£45 million) mansion off the market. They are struggling to sell their 12-bedroom, 24-bathroom home – and another insider adds that they’re not helping matters by bickering about their other unresolved problems, which could result in an all-out legal battle.

‘Jen refused to lower the price, but that doesn’t mean Ben’s happy about the decision to take it off the market,’ the source says. ‘Even sitting empty, it’s a money pit. Ben says it will go back on the market in six months – and if it still doesn’t sell, then he’ll have to get tough about the price.

‘Ben doesn’t believe this is a smart financial move, and thinks J.Lo’s doing this to punish him. He can’t be tied to her like this forever. He’s been trying to play nice, but he is very worked up. However, if he tries to take legal action to lower the price, she will fight back hard. She’s already bitter over the concessions she had to make in the divorce. If he wants to bring in lawyers, it will get messy.’
