When I was in my late 40s, Covid hit. I was looking for something to fill my time, and ended up posting silly videos of me and my dogs on TikTok.\u2028To my surprise, my follower count began to skyrocket and when I checked my analytics, I could see that 90% were men aged between 20 and 30. Plenty of them left comments. \u2028Can I take you to dinner? Can you be my stepmum? they\u2019d ask.
At first, my son was totally horrified and left replies on the comments on TikTok.\u2028’That\u2019s my mum, back off!’ My followers even started replying to him. \u2028They’d say, ‘We\u2019ll keep your mum safe for you!’ \u2028It was so cringey that I just ended up blocking all of my kids on TikTok. \u2028As I posted more online, I discovered that I was now part of the \u2018cougar\u2019 community. \u2028It turned out that for some women, being a cougar was a whole lifestyle!\u2028There were cougar dating apps and loads of insider lingo, such as \u2018cubs\u2019 to refer to younger men. \u2028With so much in common, I\u2019d soon made good friends with some other ladies on the scene. We\u2019d meet up at restaurants and discuss our romantic conquests. \u2028\u2018God, my one wants me to buy him an Xbox,\u2019 said one friend. \u2018He\u2019s even asked me \u2028for help with his uni work!\u2019 \u2028Luckily for me, most of the younger guys I dated were a bit more independent than that.<\/p>\n

In fact, it could be a bit of a problem! \u2028On one restaurant date, a 25-year-old guy presented me with a ring. \u2028\u2018I\u2019m going to marry you, I\u2019ve got my heart set on it,\u2019 he said. \u2028\u2018I can\u2019t marry someone half my age!\u2019 I told him. \u2018I\u2019ve already got four kids and three grandchildren.\u2019 \u2028I\u2019d never set out to crush anyone\u2019s spirits, but I could see that he was heartbroken. \u2028With some of my other \u2018cubs\u2019, ending things has been much easier. \u2028I\u2019ve remained friends with a few, and I even attended the wedding of one of them! \u2028\u2018Does she know who I am?\u2019 I asked the groom in hushed tones. \u2028\u2018God, no!\u2019 he said, laughing. \u2018She thinks you\u2019re an old colleague.\u2019\u2028\u2018Well, congratulations to the both of you,\u2019 I said, winking. \u2028When my marriage broke down, I never thought anyone would want me, let alone a parade of gorgeous men half my age.\u2028Maybe one day I will settle down with someone more permanently. But for \u2028now, this gran just wants to have fun!<\/p>\n
