I was thrilled at her reaction.\u2028The day before we were due to leave for the hotel, I decided to give myself a bit of pampering. Opening up a box of home \u2028hair dye, I carefully read the instructions on the back.\u2028Then I applied the liquid to my long, blonde locks.\u2028Smiling, I worked the solution into my scalp before rinsing my hair clean. \u2028I just fancied a bit of a change and couldn\u2019t wait to see Hollie\u2019s reaction.\u2028After I dried and styled my new red hair, I popped over to her house.\u2028I hadn\u2019t told her about my mini makeover and, as she opened the door, I was beaming.\u2028\u2018So, what do you think?\u2019 I grinned.\u2028Taking in my transformation, her face was a picture.\u2028Only it was one of horror.\u2028\u2018What have you done?\u2019 she gasped at my auburn locks. \u2028\u2018Don\u2019t you like it?\u2019 I asked.\u2028Hollie didn\u2019t say a word. \u2028She didn\u2019t need to, because the look on her face said it all.<\/p>\n

I thought, hurt.\u2028I thought we would laugh it off, but Hollie obviously didn\u2019t think it was a laughing matter.\u2028By the end of the night, she was barely talking to me. In the end, I went home, upset.\u2028I just couldn\u2019t work it out. We hadn\u2019t even had a big argument, but Hollie wouldn\u2019t talk to me.\u2028Next morning, things hadn\u2019t changed. I had no messages from her. In fact, I couldn\u2019t reach her at all.\u2028Do you still want to go on your birthday spa weekend? I messaged. \u2028I kept refreshing my phone but there was no response.\u2028And when Hollie ignored my calls, I had to face the fact I\u2019d been stood up.\u2028Tears pricked my eyes as I rang the hotel.
\u2018There\u2019s been a change in circumstances and we\u2019re no longer able to make it. Can I get a refund?\u2019 I asked the receptionist, hopefully.\u2028She was helpful but firm. \u2028The hotel operated a strict no-refund policy so close to the booking.\u2028\u2018I can\u2019t get my money back,\u2019 I cried to Mum. \u2028\u2018I\u2019ll come with you, love,\u2019 she soothed. \u2018It would be a shame for it to go to waste.\u2019\u2028It wasn\u2019t the romantic getaway with my girlfriend that I\u2019d had in mind but Mum was right. \u2028I\u2019d paid for it so I didn\u2019t want to miss out.\u2028As we pulled into the gravel drive, Mum and I gasped. \u2028\u2018Blimey, it\u2019s dead posh,\u2019 I said. \u2028\u2018We\u2019ll have to try not to lower the tone,\u2019 Mum grinned back.\u2028I appreciated her trying to lighten the mood. \u2028But when we checked into our suite and found rose petals scattered over the bed, I winced.\u2028\u2018Let\u2019s not make this more awkward than it already is,\u2019 I told Mum, who was busy hanging up her things. \u2028It should have been funny, but in that moment, I only felt sad.\u2028Hollie should be here with me, I thought.\u2028Pulling out my mobile, I checked the screen. \u2028No messages\u2026 no missed calls\u2026\u2028Sighing, I decided to make the best of it. \u2028\u2018Right, I\u2019ve paid for full use of the spa, a facial package and a three-course meal tonight, followed by breakfast in the morning,\u2019 I announced to Mum.\u2028\u2018Well, we\u2019d better hurry up and get relaxing then,\u2019 she said brightly.\u2028We pulled on our robes and slippers and headed to the hot tub.\u2028We spent a lovely weekend together and I almost forgot about the hairy situation with Hollie.<\/p>\n

I tapped back, relieved to hear from her. \u2028I\u2019m fine, but let\u2019s talk in person, she replied.\u2028We arranged to meet at her place.\u2028For the rest of the journey, my mind raced. \u2028Was she going to give me the snip? \u2028As soon as I got home, Hollie came to pick me up in her car.\u2028I couldn\u2019t help noticing something odd.\u2028Months earlier, I\u2019d decorated the sun visor in her car with stickers saying \u2018Kate\u2019s Seat\u2019 and a polaroid picture of us.
But now they were gone.\u2028\u2018I\u2019ve done something terrible,\u2019 Hollie blurted.\u2028Then she told me something shocking.\u2028\u2018I met this guy in a nightclub,\u2019 she said. \u2018And I brought him home\u2026\u2019\u2028My first instinct was to laugh.\u2028I waited for her to tell me that it was a silly joke. \u2028But she never did.<\/p>\n

But I\u2019d never go back there. \u2028I deserve better \u2013 I\u2019m a cut above!<\/p>\n
