It was a moment that shocked Hollywood and now, three years on, actor Will Smith\u2019s attack on comedian Chris Rock at the Academy Awards is still one of the most talked about events in Oscars history.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But while Chris, 60, was left \u2018hurt\u2019 and clearly shaken by the event, Will has ignored calls for him to be \u2018cancelled\u2019 from Hollywood, and instead made an explosive comeback last week, releasing new music with lyrics that appear to mock his \u2018assault\u2019 on Chris.\u00a0<\/p>\n
One report has labelled Will\u2019s new album, \u2018Based on a True Story\u2019 as \u2018unfiltered and unapologetic\u2019 as he raps, \u2018Will Smith is cancelled\/ You can\u2019t cancel no icon\u2019 and goes on to make a joke about how he\u2019s unlikely to be \u2018nominated\u2019 for an award.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Will, 56, also ridiculed the incident in his 2024\u00a0The Bad Boys: Ride or Die, with his character being slapped at the end of the film \u2013 a clear nod to the Oscars event.\u00a0<\/p>\n
And now a source says Chris is \u2018furious\u2019 that Will \u2013 who declared to fans that he was on a spiritual journey of \u2018self-discovery\u2019 – \u00a0appears to be exploiting what has been described as \u2018shocking and unprecedented\u2019 behaviour for his own gain.\u00a0<\/p>\n
An insider says, \u2018Chris\u00a0finds the whole \u2018changed man\u2019 narrative that Will is peddling beyond infuriating. He doesn\u2019t buy it for one moment, especially as he went ahead and mocked the slap in\u00a0The Bad Boys. To Chris, the fact that he\u2019s joking about it really speaks volumes about how sorry he really is.\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘All Will has done is whine to everyone about how hard he’s tried to make amends, which is only making\u00a0Chris\u00a0even more bitter. The infamous slap moment happened three years ago<\/p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding=”||0px|||” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content” sticky_enabled=”0″]
At the time of the event in March 2022, Chris, who was presenting at the 94th\u00a0Academy Awards, made a joke about Will\u2019s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith \u2013 comparing her shaved head to Demi Moore\u2019s character in the 1997 film, G.I Jane.<\/p>\n
Jada, 53, suffers from alopecia \u2013 a condition that causes hair loss \u2013 although Chris\u2019 brother Kenny later insisted that Chris had not been aware of this at the time of his joke.<\/p>\n
As attendees looked on in horror, Will then repeatedly shouted, \u2018Keep my wife\u2019s name out of your f***ing mouth\u2019 before storming onto the stage and smacking Chris across the face.<\/p>\n
Will was then allowed to stay on through the event and went on to scoop up his award for Best Actor for his sports biopic\u00a0King Richard,\u00a0despite Academy representatives insisting that he was asked to leave\u00a0.<\/p>\n
However, the\u00a0Bad Boys\u00a0star was later banned from attending any Oscars events for ten years and resigned his membership to the Academy.<\/p>\n
But while Will later apologised to Chris in a video on his YouTube channel four months later and called his behaviour \u2018unacceptable\u2019, the source says Chris would have preferred to speak with Will in person when he was ready.<\/p>\n
They say,\u00a0\u2018Maybe if he\u2019d come to\u00a0Chris\u00a0in person and respectfully apologised this would feel more sincere, but\u00a0Chris\u00a0insists that has never happened.\u2019<\/p>\n
The insider also reveals how Chris believes that Will\u2019s new journey of personal growth and the narrative that he wasn\u2019t \u2018thinking straight\u2019 and was not in control is further proof of Will \u2018playing the victim\u2019.<\/p>\n
They add, \u2018Chris has been doing his best to put this all behind him and just forget about it, but Will keeps bringing it up. He\u2019s now referencing it on his new album and yet again playing the victim, even though he was clearly the aggressor.<\/p>\n
\u2018It puts the whole apology tour Will did into perspective. Clearly, he was full of it and was only saying what he thought will curry favour with the public. He was never really sorry.<\/p>\n
\u2018As far as he\u2019s concerned Will is nothing but a narcissist who will never truly have any remorse for what he did. At the time of the slap, US Film Producer Will Packer revealed how the police had been ready to arrest Will for \u2018battery\u2019 but that a shell-shocked Chris had repeatedly said that he didn\u2019t want to press charges.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Will said, \u2018They were saying, you know, this is battery, was a word they used in that moment.\u00a0They said, \u2018We will go get him. We are prepared. We\u2019re prepared to get him right now.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n
And now the source says that this latest humiliation has left Chris regretting his decision not to press charges.<\/p>\n
They say, \u2018At the time he thought that was the right move not to press charges because he didn\u2019t want to escalate things. He actually thought Will would come to him and they could talk things out and find some peace.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Returning to the Vanity Fair Oscars Party, the comedian, who attended alongside his eldest daughter, was seen chatting to Hollywood hotshots such as Timothy Chalamet and Jeff Bezos.\u00a0<\/p>\n
And the source says that at this point Will has left Chris with no choice but to speak out when the right time comes.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The insider says, \u2018At this point\u00a0Chris\u00a0is saying he\u2019s going to have no choice but to answer back the next time he does a stand-up show.\u00a0<\/p>\n
