It\u2019s a social experiment as much as it\u2019s a dating show,\u2019 he explains. \u2018We didn\u2019t know what was going to happen when we put however many naked people in a house to date. It could have been an orgy from the first day!\u2019<\/p>\n The Paramount+ series, which is out on 23 August, sees a group of male and female contestants spend a month living together in a beach house in Columbia. They flirt, date, partner up, play games and vote each other out in the name of love \u2013 all without so much as a tampon in. Yes, really.<\/p>\n Naturally, we had a lot of questions. What happens when the men get a bit excited? What do the women do when it\u2019s that time of the month? Was it not really awkward living with strangers without any clothes on? \u2018That\u2019s what\u2019s really messed up about this whole situation,\u2019 Rylan jokes, \u2018it just became normal. The first time I saw them all I went \u201cI have to get this out the way\u201d and I just did a sweep [of their bits and bobs] and they all burst out laughing and from that moment on it was fine.\u2019<\/p>\n From the first episode alone, what\u2019s striking is just how comfortable the daters all seem with each other. To answer the tampon query, the women were all offered modesty pants in the event of their period starting and none of them decided to wear any. \u2018That\u2019s a massive testament to the crew,\u2019 Rylan boasts, \u2018for making them feel so looked after. For me as the host, that\u2019s probably one of the biggest things I\u2019m proud of.\u2019 As for the men, they were encouraged to take ten minutes \u2018down time\u2019 if they got an erection \u2013 something that happened quite a lot.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text module_class=”custom-quote” _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” header_2_font=”Libre Bodoni|||on|||||” header_2_text_align=”center” header_2_text_color=”#333333″ header_2_font_size=”40px” header_2_line_height=”1.2em” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content” sticky_enabled=”0″]<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding=”|||0px||” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content” sticky_enabled=”0″]<\/p>\n There is an added sense of immediate intimacy in this show because of the nudity. \u2018Something just happened, and I think it\u2019s the fact they were all naked and all different that made them feel confident in that group,\u2019 the host adds. \u2018They just became so comfortable with each other because they\u2019re all in the same boat. But there is more drama in this show than I thought there would be. There\u2019s one episode where I actually make this noise like I\u2019m possessed because I was so shocked by a decision. It was like being hit round the face with a baseball bat.\u2019<\/p>\n So, we know there\u2019s drama. We know there\u2019s romance. And we know there are lots of genitals. In the first two episodes alone, we see a naked horse-riding date, a male contestant doing naked press ups on the hot tiled floor, and plenty of people speaking earnestly about who they fancy while spread eagle in the diary room. \u2018That\u2019s sort of our human nature that prudishness that\u2019s like \u201coh penis!\u201d, \u201coh breasts!\u201d, \u201cshe\u2019s just sitting there with her legs open\u201d. Breaking news: people have genitals and breasts.\u2019<\/p>\n Rylan continues, \u2018When you watch this series, it\u2019s really warm, and the fact that they\u2019re naked plays a big part in the conversations that happen in the house and relationships that result in the house.\u2019<\/p>\n Of course, going on a show like this is not for the faint hearted. The production team made a conscious effort to include people with a diverse mix of body types; a positive shift from a lot of rival reality shows that seem to exclusively cast the same slim, toned figures time and time again. However, standing next to a group of naked people can obviously still lead to insecurity.<\/p>\n \u2018I know full well all the men were in the gym up until the point when we threw them into the house,\u2019 says Rylan. \u2018Put naked straight men together, they\u2019re going to talk about their penises. It happens! If a new boy walked in, the first thing you\u2019d hear is \u201chis willy is bigger than mine\u201d,\u2019 he laughs. \u2018What\u2019s lovely is that no one was ever nasty about appearances to each other. They all look great and they\u2019re all gorgeous. What you found is that within minutes of meeting each other they realised none of it really matters.\u2019<\/p>\n Without giving too much away, it turns out dating naked works. There are people who got together on the show who are still together now. \u2018We filmed back in February. If this was a showmance or for the money or the brand deals, well it\u2019s been months and nobody even knows about them yet,\u2019 Rylan says confidently. \u2018We\u2019re just really proud that it worked.\u2019<\/p>\n And what about Rylan? Would he dare to bare all for love? \u2018Yes, I would. I wouldn\u2019t before watching this. I\u2019d be like, \u201care you fucking mad?\u201d\u2019 He may have opted to keep his clothes on this time (though he admits it did feel strange being dressed while surrounded by naked bodies), but Rylan thinks modern dating needs a shake-up. \u2018I\u2019m bored of it,\u2019 he admits, \u2018but that\u2019s probably why I\u2019m single. You get ghosted and the next thing you know, they\u2019re married to a woman. It\u2019s too much drama. So I would do it if I wasn\u2019t Rylan, but unfortunately I am.\u2019<\/p>\n As for the series, he just hopes people find it. \u2018It\u2019s not on a linear channel, it\u2019s obviously on Paramount+ so fingers crossed people find it.
