Despite detailing the ‘severe emotional distress’ she has suffered in recent months in her lawsuit against Justin Baldoni and Jamey Heath, who directed and produced\u00a0It Ends With Us, a lot of social media users still have their blinkers on.<\/p>\n A viral TikTok, liked by more than 560k people, has stitched together three minutes of uncontextualised video snippets of Lively from over the years. The video is captioned \u2018sorry but Blake Lively has always given me mean girl vibes\u2026\u2019 and is set to sinister music. The clips show Lively making sarcastic and dry-humoured jokes with interviewers, cast members and often poking fun at herself.<\/p>\n Sure, you could choose to interpret some clips as an occasional lack of patience or bad manners, but as Brits, most of those clips read as classically sarcastic sense of humour that perhaps doesn’t resonate so well across the pond.<\/p>\n Another viral TikTok that appears to be rallying people against Lively even suggests that she was the one controlling the sex scenes with Baldoni, despite claiming to feel uncomfortable in her lawsuit, by featuring a clip where she talks about the intimacy coordination on set. \u2018That shouldn\u2019t be happening by the way,\u2019 she replied when asked about her role in choreographing those scenes. \u2018You should not be the intimacy coordinator; you should definitely hire an intimacy coordinator… which we did have.\u2019<\/p>\n How has that transpired into somehow meaning Lively is at fault? It’s unclear – in context, it appears as though Lively is suggesting that when you have an intimacy coordinator usually, a cast member wouldn’t have to step in to choreograph sex scenes – which can be understandably be uncomfortable to film.<\/p>\n There are many more videos just like this, all of which are forging on with the ‘mean girl’ narrative that Lively is claiming was orchestrated by Baldoni’s team in an effort to ruin her reputation – he denies the allegations.<\/p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_code _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” theme_builder_area=”post_content” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″] Missed the back story? Let us catch you up. It went sort of like this: Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively co-starred in the film adaptation of Coleen Hoover\u2019s best-selling novel,\u00a0It Ends With Us,\u00a0but by the time the film came out in August 2024 they wouldn\u2019t do any press together. Following the scent of a cast feud, the internet quickly decided that Lively must be the one in the wrong. She failed to address the film\u2019s darker themes of domestic violence during interviews, launched a new haircare line and an alcohol brand in tandem with the film and she reportedly undermined the director, Baldoni himself, on set.<\/p>\n While all of this was playing out on social media, a series of anecdotes and interview clips from Lively\u2019s past resurfaced to corroborate her character assassination.\u00a0One of which was from the\u00a0Caf\u00e9 Society\u00a0press junket in 2016\u00a0when the journalist Kjersti Flaa, who was not pregnant, said to Lively, who was, \u2018congrats on your little bump\u2019. Lively then appears to mock her by replying, \u2018congrats on\u00a0your\u00a0little bump\u2019.<\/p>\n At this point, Baldoni was very much the victor in the trial by social media. He was invited on feminist podcasts to talk about domestic violence and resilience, he was accosted by fans who thanked him for speaking up on behalf survivors of abuse and he became something of an ‘internet boyfriend’. Lively, on the other hand, was being trolled endlessly and in an ensuing lawsuit, says she was suffering ‘mental pain and anguish’ at this time and had her brand sales plummet by up to 78%.<\/p>\n In December,\u00a0Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni\u00a0claiming sexual harassment and an alleged retaliatory public smear campaign to \u2018destroy\u2019 her reputation. Details of the lawsuit were published by\u00a0The New York Times\u00a0and allege nefarious tactics by Baldoni\u2019s experienced PR team. In a series of alleged text messages between Baldoni, his publicist Jennifer Abel and Melissa Nathan, a crisis management expert, Baldoni wrote that he wants to \u2018feel like [Lively] can be buried\u2019. He also allegedly shared a twitter thread about \u2018Hailey Bieber\u2019s history of bullying\u2019 and said \u2018this is what we would need\u2019 in a text to his publicist. The PR team is also said to have worked with Flaa, the\u00a0Cafe Society\u00a0journalist who said her interview with Lively nearly derailed her career, in the past.<\/p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text module_class=”custom-quote” _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” header_2_font=”Libre Bodoni|||on|||||” header_2_text_align=”center” header_2_text_color=”#333333″ header_2_font_size=”40px” header_2_line_height=”1.2em” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”] After all of this came out, Baldoni was dropped by his talent agency and had his award from a women\u2019s rights charity rescinded. For a brief moment, people on social media embarked on a moment of reflection. Did everyone accidentally jump on a cross-platform, pre-meditated hate train? Is it possible that there is more to the story and that Lively is owed an apology? Shouldn’t we automatically be believing women who claim they have been harassed in the workplace, knowing all too well how common and mishandled these cases can be?<\/p>\n Well, this period didn\u2019t last long. On New Year\u2019s Eve, Baldoni filed a $250 million libel lawsuit against\u00a0The New York Times\u00a0for the paper\u2019s reporting on Lively\u2019s allegations, accusing the outlet of having \u2018cowered to the wants and whims of two powerful \u201cuntouchable\u201d Hollywood elites\u2019. In other words, Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds. On 8 January, Baldoni\u2019s lawyer gave an interview with TMZ to say that it is Lively who worked to smear Baldoni, not the other way around.<\/p>\n The hate train quickly resumed. This week an interview clip from 2017 randomly resurfaced on X, where Armie Hammer was asked who the \u2018biggest diva\u2019 was on the set of Gossip Girl. A show he starred in for four episodes in 2009. \u2018Let me just say that was a tough show to film and I didn\u2019t end up actually filming all the episodes I was supposed to because it was such tough filming,\u2019 he told the host Andy Cohen. Aside from the fact this is Hammer speaking \u2013 a man who was previously accused of sexual and emotional abuse by multiple previous partners, although he denied all allegations and was not charged \u2013 is it not worth questioning why this random clip from 2017 is back on our feeds?<\/p>\n Apparently not, it\u2019s just another reason to pile on Lively without any intention of finding out the truth or understanding the wider context. For what it\u2019s worth, Hammer reportedly called Lively \u2018an insufferable b*tch\u2019 in front of the Gossip Girl cast during a dinner scene.<\/p>\n Despite these rumoured events taking place more than 15 years ago, the clip is another digital crumb being offered to fans waiting to pile on the It Ends With Us star. The video fits neatly into the picture these users already have in their heads \u2013 one that was possibly planted on purpose.<\/p>\n Even if sinister and calculated tactics were at play, Lively is still having her name dragged through the mud on a daily basis. It\u2019s clear that the situation is far more complicated than anyone realised, the whole saga highlights how important it is to question what you are being fed on social media. A place where division, hate and misogyny are rifer than ever.
