After all, the rapper, 47, is no stranger to a risqu\u00e9, eyebrow-raising display. Over the years, he\u2019s become well-known for posting explicit photographs of the women in his life – most commonly of his wife Bianca Censori, 30, whom he married back in 2022.<\/p>\n
As disappointing as it is to admit, casual misogyny has become part of the parcel when it comes to this music mogul. From bizarre Twitter fights to exclamation-mark ridden rants, the rapper has a long history of problematic online behaviour.<\/p>\n
Back in 2016, the father of four\u2013 two of which are daughters North, 11, and Chicago, seven \u2013 tweeted the words no woman at the time wanted to read. He put out to his followers \u2018BILL COSBY INNOCENT !!!!!!!!!!\u2019 That is, the same Cosby who was accused of sexual misconduct by over 50 separate women and jailed for sexual assault in 2018. In 2021, he was released after three years in prison, with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturning his conviction.<\/p>\n
Research shows that five in six women who are raped don\u2019t report it. Far more than simply tone deaf and moronic, comments like Kanye\u2019s are offensive and dangerous in a world that often paints women as \u2018liars’ and perpetuates a culture where they feel afraid to come forward.<\/p>\n
Casual sexism streams into his music, too. The video for his 2010 song \u2018Monster\u2019 features Kanye rearranging the lifeless bodies of women on a bed \u2013 in a way that, according to Feminist Frequency\u2019s Anita Sarkessian, \u2018fetishises the aspects of women that don\u2019t even require us to be physically alive.\u2019<\/p>\n
Kanye\u2019s problematic moments seep into his personal life, also. It was well documented that the rapper controlled ex-wife Kim\u2019s fashion choices (as seen on their reality TV show) by rebuilding her wardrobe to fit his taste. After splitting with the Yeezy founder, Kim admitted to finding it \u2018psychologically hard\u2019 to style herself \u2013 saying, \u2018I was so insecure that I couldn\u2019t do anything without my security blanket.\u2019<\/p>\n
Amber Rose is another woman Kanye has consistently torn down. After splitting from Amber in 2010 after two years together, Kanye later said, \u2018It\u2019s very hard for a woman to want to be with someone that\u2019s with Amber Rose. I had to take 30 showers before I got with Kim.\u2019 In his song \u201930 Hours,\u2019 Kanye once again insulted Amber \u2013 rapping, \u2018My ex says she gave me the best years of her life\/ I saw a recent picture of her\/ I guess she was right.\u2019<\/p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text module_class=”custom-quote” _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” header_2_font=”Libre Bodoni|||on|||||” header_2_text_align=”center” header_2_text_color=”#333333″ header_2_font_size=”40px” header_2_line_height=”1.2em” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content” sticky_enabled=”0″]

In 2020, Amber Rose finally hit back at the string of abuse she had received. She stated, \u2018[Kanye] has picked on me for 10 years. He has bullied me for 10 years.\u2019<\/p>\n
But perhaps most famous of all was his fallout with popstar Taylor Swift. In his song \u2018Famous\u2019, Kanye raps, \u2018I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex\/ Why? I made that bitch famous.\u2019 Cameras pan over a mannequin of Swift\u2019s naked body in bed, accompanied by Kanye and various other woman of notoriety. The line harked back to Kanye\u2019s infamous 2009 VMA blunder, in which he interrupted a 19-year-old Taylor mid acceptance speech to insist that Beyonce should have won the award for Best Female Video instead.<\/p>\n
Releasing his song in 2016, Kanye initially claimed on Twitter that Taylor had given her blessing \u2013 going so far to say he was \u2018not even gonna take credit for the idea.\u2019 Taylor\u2019s team quickly shut down Kanye\u2019s claim, insisting that the singer \u2018was never made aware of the actual lyric.\u2019 In a fallout that has become pop culture lore, Kanye\u2019s then-wife Kim waded into the controversy by releasing a phone call recording\u2013 one that seemingly showing Taylor agreeing to the sexist line.<\/p>\n
A phone call which, four years later, was confirmed to have been edited. Amid the vitriol and humiliation received at the hands of Kimye, the \u2018Cruel Summer\u2019 singer later shared, \u2018You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar. That took me psychologically to a place I\u2019ve never been before. Make no mistake \u2013 my career was taken away from me.\u2019<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not just sexism that runs rife in the world of Ye. In 2022, the star\u2019s social media accounts were restricted following a string of antisemitic posts. Race has also played into it, with his repertoire including inflammatory statements on slavery being a \u2018choice.\u2019 Some might describe Kanye\u2019s more questionable actions as \u2018missteps\u2019 or \u2018misjudgements,\u2019 absolving him of responsibility by painting him as an individual who simply didn\u2019t know the consequences of his actions.<\/p>\n
I would argue that an intelligent man like Kanye knows. The rapper isn\u2019t completely oblivious to his criticisms, previously displaying a certain level of introspection. When criticised for his song \u2018Perfect Bitch,\u2019 (which he tweeted was \u2018about Kim\u2019) the rapper asked, \u2018Is the word BITCH acceptable? To be more specific, is it acceptable for a man to call a woman bitch even if it\u2019s endearing?\u2019<\/p>\n
Some refuse to believe his actions are an accurate representation of Kanye the Individual, but rather a portrayal of Kanye the Performer \u2013 someone who causes controversy in the name of art. Perhaps it doesn\u2019t matter. Put simply, there are ways to be provocative that don’t involve degrading women.<\/p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text module_class=”credit-texts” _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” text_font=”|||on|||||” text_orientation=”center” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content”]
