Words by Nikki Peach<\/strong><\/p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/flatplan-plus-content.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2025\/02\/imago243973384.jpg” alt=”Jennifer Aniston” title_text=”April 17, 2023: The Los Angeles District Attorney s Office is reviewing claims of sexual assault made against actor ARMI” force_fullwidth=”on” _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″] Armie Hammer has appeared on The Louis Theroux Podcast<\/em> this week and took the opportunity to address some of the darkest rumours and allegations he has faced over the years, including those of cannibalism and assault.<\/p>\n In true Theroux fashion, he put the flesh-eating question to the actor in no uncertain terms, asking \u2018Are you a cannibal?\u2019. In true Hammer fashion, he answered rather bizarrely. \u2018You know what you have to do to actually be a cannibal? You have to actually eat human flesh,\u2019 he said. \u2018So no.\u2019<\/p>\n He went on to say that he has eaten an animal’s entire heart, saying ‘You take a bite out of the heart, and you\u2019ve got all your buddies around you, they\u2019re goading you on\u2026 it\u2019s sort of like an almost overly charged male rite of passage when you go hunting for your first time.’<\/p>\n In 2021, Hammer was accused of having harmful sexual fantasies, including those involving cannibalism, as well as sexual assault and abuse, all of which he denies. The actor was first accused of rape and physically abusive behaviour by a woman known as Effie. She shared screenshots of graphic texts allegedly sent by Hammer, and in one he appears to declare himself a cannibal.<\/p>\n Following Effie\u2019s accusations, at least two other former partners of Hammer\u2019s came forward with accusations of sexual coercion and emotional abuse dating between 2017 and 2020, including his ex-girlfriend, Paige Lorenze.<\/p>\n Hammer previously denied all allegations and the authorities in LA country declined to pursue the sexual assault charges. The actor told Theroux that he is \u2018not going to argue the messages\u2019 which were shared online, but said they were only \u2018one side of a conversation\u2019 and that \u2018it [was] fun to joke if I was stoned or drunk or like laughing as I was typing\u2019.<\/p>\n When asked about the allegations of abusive behaviour, Hammer had some alarming self-reflections to share. \u2018I\u2019m very quick to admit that I was selfish, and inconsiderate, and an a-hole, and a cad, and I used people to make me feel better,\u2019 he admitted. In one particularly galling confession he said that \u2018people were sort of like my bags of dope with skin on them\u2019.<\/p>\n \u2018You make me feel amazing, so I\u2019m going to throw everything into this, and we\u2019re going to have this whirlwind romance, and I\u2019m going to whisk you up, and we\u2019re going to go on trips, and we\u2019re going to do all this, and then I\u2019m going to bring you home and I\u2019m going to go, \u201cThanks so much, that was great,\u201d and then I\u2019m going to move on,\u2019 he told Theroux.<\/p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text module_class=”custom-quote” _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” header_2_font=”Libre Bodoni|||on|||||” header_2_text_align=”center” header_2_text_color=”#333333″ header_2_font_size=”40px” header_2_line_height=”1.2em” global_colors_info=”{}”] Hammer can now recognise this behaviour as \u2018love bombing\u2019. \u2018I left a lot of people in that wake very angry at me for my behaviour\u2026 Asshole behaviour. There\u2019s no way around that,\u2019 he added. \u2018Does that make me a dick? Absolutely. I have no problem admitting that. I was a dick. That\u2019s not illegal.\u2019<\/p>\n He seems to chalk up his sexual dalliances to being \u2018a bit of a provocateur\u2019 and said his actions were often exacerbated by alcohol or drugs, adding that \u2018it\u2019s fun to push the envelope little by little\u2019.<\/p>\n Shortly after the scandal that saw Hammer accused of cannibalism and sexual assault, his Hollywood career understandably took a downward turn. In the podcast episode, he explains that he then entered a trauma treatment facility, which he described as \u2018one of the most helpful things\u2019 he\u2019s ever done for himself. He also took up a short-term job selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands and worked as a school greenskeeper and an apartment block manager.<\/p>\n Four years later, his career has seemingly returned. He has just wrapped a film in the US and he has new offers coming in every week. Still, Hammer has his own musings to share about \u2018cancel culture\u2019.<\/p>\n For one, he says he can\u2019t point blank say he\u2019d refuse to work with Woody Allen \u2013 the decorated director who was accused of sexually molesting his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow by his ex-partner Mia Farrow \u2013 because he doesn\u2019t know if he \u2018buys into any of the cancel\u2019. Dylan has repeated the allegation several times herself as an adult, but Allen has always denied it and he was exonerated following an investigation. Allen is currently married to Soon-Yi Previn, who was previously his other adopted daughter.<\/p>\n \u2018If I say, \u201cNo, I would never work with Woody Allen,\u201d then all I\u2019m doing is saying, \u201cI believe in this system that cancels people,\u2019\u201d suggests Hammer. ‘I think what I would honestly do is I\u2019d say, I\u2019d like to sit down with him first, and I\u2019d like to talk to him.’<\/p>\n Hammer’s hiatus from mainstream fame might have forced him into a period of reckoning and reflection, but it has emboldened him in many ways too.
