Words by Nikki Peach<\/strong><\/p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https:\/\/flatplan-plus-content.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2025\/02\/Screenshot-2025-02-20-at-15.03.35.png” alt=”Jennifer Aniston” title_text=”Screenshot 2025-02-20 at 15.03.35″ force_fullwidth=”on” _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″] Olivia Munn, who has starred in The Newsroom<\/em>, Beyond the Break<\/em> and Magic Mike<\/em>, recently appeared on Monica Lewinsky\u2019s \u2018Reclaiming\u2019 podcast and opened up about her traumatic experiences working in the TV and film industry.<\/p>\n The actress explained that her childhood was riddled with bullying, and she became \u2018really feisty\u2019 as a result. \u2018So things were really black and white for me and I would make decisions without thinking them through enough,\u2019 she explained. \u2018I was just like, \u201cThis is wrong, this is right,\u201d and I would never really be able to see the grey.\u2019<\/p>\n This, Munn explains, affected her in an adult life, particularly in the workplace. \u2018There were other things that happened on this movie set, personally to me, that was really not ok, and it was so traumatic that I had to file complaints with the studio,\u2019 she told Lewinsky.<\/p>\n Munn went on to say there were \u2018a lot of other little\u2019 warning signs and off behaviours on set, but she did not go into further detail. \u2018It got to this place where I was offered a lot of money. A lot of money \u2013 seven figures to accept, I guess, their apology and them taking acknowledgement of it.\u2019<\/p>\n However, the payment \u2018came along with an NDA\u2019. \u2018Not that I would ever have talked about it, truly, because I just wanted to move past it all,\u2019 she said. \u2018That\u2019s why I don\u2019t want to talk about the specific things that happened in that situation, but I said, \u201cI\u2019m not signing an NDA.\u201d\u2019 She was then allegedly told she\u2019d have to in order to receive the money.<\/p>\n Munn explained that the situation unfolded right at the beginning of the #MeToo movement that was popularised in 2017, which saw multiple allegations of sexual misconduct levelled against men in Hollywood.<\/p>\n \u2018This was like, the reckoning, the Harvey Weinstein reckoning that began it all,\u2019 she continued. \u2018This was that time period, and this was when people were targeting anyone who signed an NDA saying, \u201cOh, you only did it for money\u201d, so I was afraid that my voice and speaking up would reverse any kind of validity to my voice.\u2019<\/p>\n Munn admitted she was \u2018concerned\u2019 that the studio would \u2018leak out that [she] had signed an NDA for money\u2019 in \u2018an effort to diminish [her] voice\u2019. As a result, she told her lawyer that she was not going to sign the NDA or accept the money and they encouraged her to think about the offer further before acting.<\/p>\n \u2018That comes into the feistiness of not thinking things through and being so upset and frustrated that this would be offered to me that I did not think about negotiating,\u2019 she added. \u2018I did not think about anything besides how disrespectful that was.\u2019<\/p>\n Despite Munn\u2019s lawyers thinking she was \u2018crazy\u2019 for not accepting the deal, she concluded that \u2018it is not a lot of money to lose my voice\u2019. Ultimately, she felt \u2018so proud\u2019 of herself after walking away.<\/p>\n \u2018Look, was it the right thing to do and do the people in my life think that I did the right thing and are proud of me for that? Yes,\u2019 she added. \u2018It\u2019s not that I wouldn\u2019t have ended up with the same decision, it\u2019s that I made that decision based on anger, and that is something I had to learn how to do to rein in and use for my benefit.\u2019<\/p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text module_class=”custom-quote” _builder_version=”4.20.4″ _module_preset=”default” header_2_font=”Libre Bodoni|||on|||||” header_2_text_align=”center” header_2_text_color=”#333333″ header_2_font_size=”40px” header_2_line_height=”1.2em” global_colors_info=”{}”] Munn might not have elaborated on her experience during the podcast, or named anyone in particular, but she has voiced her opinion on similar subjects in the past. In 2010 in her collection of essays, Suck It, Wonder Woman!: The Misadventures of a Hollywood Geek<\/em>, she alleged that Brett Ratner masturbated in front of her when she visited him on the set of After the Sunset<\/em> in 2004.<\/p>\n She did not originally name the director but later identified him after other women came forward with their own accusations of sexual misconduct. Ratner denied Munn\u2019s allegation of sexual harassment via his lawyer, and has denied all other allegations of misconduct.<\/p>\n In 2018, she spoke about finding out that she had shared a scene with a registered sex offender in Predator<\/em>, which she flagged to 20th Century Fox and had the scene cut entirely. Steven Wilder Striegel, a close friend of the Predator<\/em> director Shane Black, was featured in a brief scene with Munn in the film.<\/p>\n Munn discovered that Striegel pleaded guilty in 2010 to felony risk of injury to a child and felony enticing a minor by computer after attempting to lure a 14-year-old girl into a sexual relationship. He spent six months in prison.<\/p>\n \u2018[I found it] both surprising and unsettling that Shane Black, our director, did not share this information to the cast, crew or Fox Studios prior to, during, or after production,\u2019 the actress told the Los Angeles Times in a statement. \u2018However, I am relieved that when Fox finally did receive the information, the studio took appropriate action by deleting the scene featuring Wilder prior to release of the film.\u2019<\/p>\n The studio responded in a statement: \u2018Our studio was not aware of Mr Striegel\u2019s background when he was hired. We were not aware of his background during the casting process due to legal limitations that impede studios from running background checks on actors.\u2019<\/p>\n Since Striegel\u2019s release from prison, he has starred in Black\u2019s films Iron Man 3<\/em> and The Nice Guys<\/em>. When asked about this decision, Black told The Times, \u2018I personally chose to help a friend.
