Police last month said the investigation into Andrew would be lengthy and \u2018complex\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There has been another allegation faced by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, with a new report alleging he \u2018behaved inappropriately\u2019 with a waitress working at Royal Ascot in 2002.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The disgraced former royal \u2013 who had his title taken away last year \u2013 is being investigated for allegations of misconduct in public office, and according to The Sunday Times<\/em>, police are \u2018examining events in 2002 as they consider wider possible crimes by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, including sexual misconduct, corruption and fraud\u2019. It is not known whether the incident was reported to police at the time, or later. (Andrew has consistently denied any wrongdoing, and he has not been charged with a crime.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Royal Ascot is one of the biggest events on the royal calendar \u2013 with senior royals arriving daily by horse-drawn carriages before the racing begins. In 2002, Andrew attended two out of five days. And two years prior, he hosted late paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein and his former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell in the royal enclosure on Ladies’ Day. (Andrew hasn\u2019t attended Ascot since 2019, just before his disastrous Newsnight<\/em> interview.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrew was arrested on his 66th birthday, in February, on suspicion for passing on classified information to Epstein. He was released the same day, still under investigation, after police searched properties linked to him in Norfolk and Windsor and questioned him for around 12 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, police provided an update on the investigation, saying it will be lengthy and \u2018complex\u2019. \u2018The investigation is by necessity hugely thorough and will take time,\u2019 \u2060Oliver Wright, Assistant Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police, who are carrying out the inquiry, told reporters. \u2018It’s not going to be a quick investigation by any means.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Brad Edwards \u2013 an American lawyer representing many of Jeffrey Epstein\u2019s victims \u2013 told the BBC<\/em> he had \u2018multiple clients\u2019 who could speak about Andrew, but didn\u2019t have enough \u2018confidence\u2019 in the UK police and feared press intrusion. \u2018Our multiple clients, plural, with information about [Mountbatten-Windsor] will not speak with authorities in the UK for two reasons,\u2019 Edwards explained to the outlet, in a story published on May 29. \u2018First, the authorities did not care to do anything when Epstein was alive, so their confidence is low. Second, and most important, the harassment by the British press has dissuaded them from ever cooperating with UK authorities or speaking with the British press.\u2019 The National Police Chiefs’ Council said anyone who comes forward would be \u2018treated with care, compassion and respect\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While he has always maintained his innocence, in August 2021 Andrew was accused of sexual assault by Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she was forced to have sex with the then-prince on several occasions in the early 2000s when she was 17 years old. She claimed she had been sex trafficked by Epstein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


The following February, Giuffre and Andrew reached an out-of-court settlement, paid for in part by the late Queen Elizabeth, which meant the case did not go to trial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


However, Virginia died in April 2025 and six months later her posthumous memoir, Nobody’s Girl, was published containing harrowing details about the abuse she allegedly suffered as a teenager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the book, Giuffre repeated her claims that she was forced to have sex with Andrew on three occasions, including during an orgy. She also spoke about the significance of Andrew’s Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis, which is largely responsible for the toppling of his reputation. ‘As devastating as this interview was for Prince Andrew, for my legal team it was like an injection of jet fuel,’ she wrote. ‘Its contents would not only help us build an ironclad case against the prince but also open the door to potentially subpoenaing his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, and their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Eugenie.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Giuffre also wrote about Andrew’s attempts to avoid being served her lawsuit. ‘The prince made it difficult for my lawyers to serve him papers, fleeing to Queen Elizabeth’s Balmoral Castle in Scotland and hiding behind its well-guarded gates.’ As for the settlement, she claimed she ‘agreed to a one-year gag order, which seemed important because it ensured that his mother’s Platinum Jubilee would not be tarnished’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


In October last year, following mounting pressure from the public, Buckingham Palace released a statement to confirm that Andrew had all his royal titles stripped, and was no longer permitted to live in Royal Lodge in Windsor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


‘Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor,’ the statement read. ‘His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n
