More than six months since the latest tranche of the Epstein Files was released, the fallout continues, this week with Microsoft founder Bill Gates brought in front of a Congress committee to discuss his relationship with the billionaire and his extra-marital affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawyers for Gates had successfully fought for his testimony to the House oversight committee on June 10 to take place behind closed doors, however this week a transcript of the interview was released publicly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In talking about his relationship with the paedophile, Gates admitted that after seeing documents released at the end of the last year he felt Jeffrey Epstein \u201cwas sort of rehearsing how either he or he, coaching someone else, might choose to blackmail me\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also discussed details of three women he had affairs with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three million files were released at the end of last year relating to Epstein – Gates was one of hundreds of powerful people who were mentioned in the files which included emails, text messages and documents. It\u2019s important to say the veracity of the comments and accusations made in the files is not known and just being mentioned in the files does not indicate wrongdoing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The files about Gates which made headlines saw Epstein claim the tech founder had contracted a sexually transmitted disease after contact with \u201cRussian girls\u201d and even tried to secretly get antibiotics for his then wife. He also made claims about \u201cillicit trysts\u201d and drug use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the time, Gates\u2019 office issued a statement very quickly, calling the allegations \u201cabsolutely absurd and completely false\u201d. He also appeared on an Australian news channel, 9News, saying the claims were \u201cfalse\u201d adding: \u201cApparently, Jeffrey wrote an email to himself. That email was never sent. The email is false.\u201d He added: \u201c\ufeffI don\u2019t know what his thinking was there. Was he trying to attack me in some way? Every minute I spent with him, I regret, and I apologize that I did that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking about those emails, this month Gates reportedly said to the committee: \u201cI was not blackmailed, but you know, as you look at these emails, you know, it looks like Mr Epstein\u2019s brainstorming was going in that direction.\u201d He added: \u201cHe never sent me anything that I would call blackmail.\u201d He admitted he felt Epstein was \u201c sort of rehearsing how either he or he, coaching someone else, might choose to blackmail me, but none of those messages were ever sent to me\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gates has also released the opening statement he made to the committee. In it, he says: \u201cI want to state very clearly: I never witnessed nor had any indication that Epstein was engaged in ongoing criminal conduct. I never went to his island, his ranch, or his Florida home. I have never victimized anyone. While he may have sought to foster a personal relationship, I was never interested in that and never reciprocated.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI never gave medicines to anyone covertly.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Stating he met the financier in 2011, he said, \u201cEpstein claimed he could raise billions of dollars for global health from people for whom he provided tax and estate services. I recall being aware that Epstein had faced prior legal issues, but I did not fully understand the extent of the crimes he committed. I accepted the introduction without applying the scrutiny I should have.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Times reports that Gates named two Russian women he had relations with during his marriage to Melinda French Gates – Mila Antonova, a bridge player, and Karima Nigmatulina, a nuclear physicist. The paper adds: \u201cEpstein became connected to Antonova after she sought help for a business idea involving online bridge lessons. Epstein paid for her to attend a coding programme and then attempted to get Gates to reimburse him the money.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked about the content of Epstein\u2019s emails, Gates said he\u2019d \u201cnever had an STD\u201d and added \u201cI never gave medicines to anyone covertly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gates also admitted an affair with Alice Jacobs Nesselrodt, a medical entrepreneur, after the panel revealed they had emails from July 2013 that linked them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tech founder was also asked about his relationship with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor who was friends with Epstein. He said he\u2019d never met the two men at the same time but that \u201cweirdly in the set of photos that I guess Epstein kept, there is a photo of me and Prince Andrew at one of those official state meetings. But nothing in connection with Epstein, even though Epstein seemed to have that picture and it shows up in the Epstein files.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gates ex-wife, French Gates, previously spoke about the release of the emails on an NPR podcast, Wild Card, saying: \u201cFor me, it’s personally hard whenever those details come up, right? Because it brings back memories of some very, very painful times in my marriage.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added: “Whatever questions remain there of what – I can’t even begin to know all of it – those questions are for those people and for even my ex-husband. They need to answer to those things, not me.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
