Last weekend, musical juggernaut Taylor Swift and former Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce made a play for wedding of the century. Getting married in Madison Square Garden (of all places) over the America 250 holiday weekend with a blink-twice, unbelievably all-star guest list, it\u2019s a wedding that will go down in history. And we haven\u2019t even seen official pictures yet.
 
The whole celebration raised a million questions from the get-go. Who was there (did Jamie Oliver and Steven Spielberg sit at the same table?)? Who wasn\u2019t there (where was Blake Lively?)? What was Taylor\u2019s dress like? How did they make a 20,000-person capacity music and sporting venue, well, not look like a 20,000-person capacity music and sporting venue?
 
Of course, another question that has loomed large since that \u2018JUST&T MARRIED\u2019 sign adored the exterior of MSG is how much the whole thing cost. According to reports, the entire wedding cost more than $30 million, with roughly $5 million spent on florals and d\u00e9cor alone. It\u2019s worth remembering that while this sounds like an extortionate amount to you and me, Swift has a net worth of $2.1 billion, so for her it\u2019s barely a day\u2019s work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018While the average American wedding sits at $34,000, according to The Knot Real Weddings Study, this production would\u2019ve operated on a completely different scale,\u2019 editorial director at The Knot Worldwide, Esther Lee, told Page Six. She added that hiring MSG, including days for load-in and load-out, plus the infrastructure needed to transform the arena into something that looked more like a picturesque, wedding venue than a basketball court would have cost between $5-10 million.
 
Rumour has it the couple transformed the space into a large-scale romantic garden, with footage showing tonnes of real plants and flowers being driven into the venue in the days running up to the wedding, which is why Lee reckons they spent at least $5 million on florals alone. \u2018Not to forget that custom draping and carpet installation had to transform the space entirely,\u2019 she added.
 
One of many unexpected celebrity guests at the wedding was Radio 1 Breakfast host Greg James, who attended with his wife, author Bella Mackie. James has remained relatively tight-lipped about the ins and outs of the party, not least because Swift and Kelce have not yet commented on it themselves, but he did confirm that there was an open bar all night. And, yes, Jay-Z\u2019s Ace of Spades champagne was readily available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The couple reportedly served food from their favourite New York restaurants, including cacio e pepe which was tossed in a cheese wheel at the table. Catering for 1,000 guests would have, of course, also cost a wild amount of money too and Lee estimates that Kelce and Swift spent around $2.5-3 million.
 
Then there\u2019s Swift\u2019s Christian Dior haute couture gown and Kelce\u2019s custom Dior suit, which possibly added another $2 million to the bill.
 
Whispers from attendees have also revealed there was a games room inside the venue where they could win raffle tickets for prizes including Chanel bags, Cartier watches and a 1970 Chevrolet that Swift and Kelce used on their first date. All of which would have tallied up the final bill too.
 
\u2018For a high-profile celebrity wedding, privacy and logistics are more likely to dictate the first stages of planning,\u2019 Lee said, pointing to the extensive and expensive security provisions, including overtime support from the NYPD. \u2018For Taylor and Travis, that meant finding an environment that allowed for total street closures and direct, private vehicle access, which is why Madison Square Garden was a prime choice for the couple on this momentous occasion.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It certainly sounds like an event of epic proportions fit for one of the world\u2019s most famous couples, but the reality is that the titbits we\u2019ve heard so far probably don\u2019t even scratch the surface. Whether will ever find out what really went down behind those curved walls on 3 July is another matter, but we wait with bated breath.
 
From the engagement announcement in August 2025 to the Easter eggs dropped last month (Swift wore a \u2018Stevie Knicks\u2019 T-shirt to watch the Knicks play at MSG, knowing Stevie Nicks would be performing at her wedding in that very venue a few weeks later), this wedding was never going to be done by halves. The mega-cost of the wedding might also explain why she and Kelce donated $26 million to various charities the week before.
 
If Swift knows anything, it\u2019s how to go large. Wherever and however this couple decided to get married, it was going to be something we\u2019d never seen before.
 
And if there\u2019s a way of hosting 1,000 celebrities in a world-famous arena for a multi-day wedding celebration with 24-hour security for less than $30 million, we\u2019d love to see the spreadsheet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
