As injectable weight loss drugs are growing in popularity, people are reporting a number of unexpected changes to come from the rapid weight loss the drugs provide. You\u2019ve probably heard of \u201cOzempic face\u201d, or maybe even \u201cOzempic vulva\u201d; now, some women have said that they\u2019ve experienced a change in their breasts that they\u2019ve nicknamed \u201cOzempic breasts\u201d or \u201cOzempic boobs\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While less than 200,000 people are thought to take injectable GLP-1 medication, through the NHS, more than 1.4 million people are believed to be accessing it privately. Ozempic is arguably the most well-known brand, but in the UK it is only licensed as a medicine for type 2 diabetes. However, other drugs using the same active ingredients can be prescribed here as a weight loss treatment. In the UK, it is most commonly sold as Wegovy or Mounjaro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GLP-1 medication must be prescribed safely by a doctor, and are not suitable for everyone. Losing weight suddenly can lead to a change in the feel and appearance in the breasts, something that started trending this week when women spoke openly about experiencing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What are Ozempic breasts?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ozempic breasts is an unofficial term used to refer to the change in shape, size and elasticity that can happen to people when they lose weight quickly as a result of taking weight loss injections. They might feel that their breasts have sagged or are less full, or they have noticed a change to the texture of the skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One Reddit user claimed that taking the drug had made her breasts look \u201ccompletely deflated\u201d, while The Sun columnist Clare O\u2019Reilly recently wrote that many of her friends had had breast implant surgery after sudden weight loss due to weight loss injections changed the shape and look of their boobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why do people get Ozempic breasts?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As much as many people would like to be able to target weight loss at specific areas of the body, this is rarely how things work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to rapid or sudden weight loss \u2013 which is one of the most appealing things about these jabs for many people \u2013 the fat stores in the body are affected first. This can include the breasts, as the percentage of fat within your breasts can be as low as seven percent but as high as 56.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When fat is lost from the breasts rapidly they can reduce in size and change in appearance, leading to boobs that look rather different. It can also impact skin elasticity, leading to sagging or loose skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to prevent Ozempic breasts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Each body is different and people will react to weight loss drugs containing semaglutide in different ways. There are, however, ways to try and avoid it happening. One of them is opting for a slower rate of weight loss, as this gives the skin time to adapt. Of course, it is hard to control how much weight will be lost with these jabs, so it is recommended to speak to a doctor beforehand specifically about concerns around fat loss in the breasts, as they may be able to lower any dose to give more gradual weight loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While breasts are made of fat, training the chest (and the pectoral muscles beneath) can help improve their structure and support. Many doctors recommend targeted exercises such as push-ups and chest presses, in order to maintain the underlying support structure of the breasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Skin elasticity can also be supported by drinking a lot of water, eating a healthy and balanced diet, and making sure to protect the skin from the sun. Keeping the skin moisturised may also be an effective way of helping aid skin elasticity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can you have treatment for Ozempic breasts?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While there\u2019s nothing inherently wrong or unhealthy about a change in breast feel or appearance, some women feel unsatisfied with the way their boobs look due to this rapid weight loss. In fact, plastic surgeons have noted an increase in people coming to them after being on weight loss medication.Nora Nugent, the president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), told the BBC that \u201cmore and more\u201d people she treats are taking or have taken weight loss drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are less invasive options though, with experts noting that – if the sagging is mild to moderate, or there is leftover fat in specific areas – there are non-invasive body contouring procedures, such as fat freezing or radiofrequency treatments that can help break down fat cells and tighten the skin. However, these results will vary person to person, and can be expensive. First and foremost, it’s important to give yourself time to adjust to body changes – both physically and mentally – before making any major decisions about aesthetic treatments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
