I think if I had done the opposite and put weight on, that would have been dangerous and it\u2019s not something I\u2019ll do anymore. I was happy to do it earlier in my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Odyssey | Official New Trailer\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/f_bKjZeJBBI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was more about just getting really, really physically fit, which just really involves changing your diet, just a whole lifestyle change. You have to just be very, very intentional about everything you\u2019re putting in your body.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Confirming his dedication to that intention, Damon spoke about a family dinner with his daughters where he\u2019d said he\u2019d enjoy a pasta meal with them &#8211; and at the last minute when the pasta came, switched and asked for a steak instead. \u201cI was just in it, it was going to be four or five more months,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s all or nothing at this point.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Damon put on weight for his role in The Informant in 2009. He gained 30 pounds for that job and now says he wouldn\u2019t do it again. His best friend Ben Affleck revealed that in a movies like his film Air, Damon instead now uses prosthetics and camera techniques to appear bigger than he is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"577\" src=\"https:\/\/flatplan-plus-content.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2026\/07\/Matt-Damon-1024x577.jpeg\" alt=\"Matt Damon\" class=\"wp-image-16658\" srcset=\"https:\/\/flatplan-plus-content.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2026\/07\/Matt-Damon-1024x577.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/flatplan-plus-content.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2026\/07\/Matt-Damon-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/flatplan-plus-content.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2026\/07\/Matt-Damon-768x433.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/flatplan-plus-content.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2026\/07\/Matt-Damon.jpeg 1296w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Actor Josh Hartnett also shared that previously Damon had warned him against putting on weight for a role, though at that point it was too late. \u201cHe\u2019s like, \u2018You\u2019re gonna spend the rest of your life trying to get that weight off and it\u2019s never gonna come off because your body\u2019s gonna want to get that weight back on,\u2019\u201d said Hartnett.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking about the physical challenges of filming The Odyssey, Damon &#8211; who famously played Jason Bourne &#8211; told People: \u201cThis movie was by far the hardest movie to the most challenging movie I\u2019ve ever been a part of,\u201d adding that every person on set \u201ccompletely maxing out and straining against what they thought was possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After paparazzi images of Damon filming shirtless on set emerged last year, Affleck was interviewed about the pictures and said: \u201cLook at my man trying to act like he didn\u2019t know they were taking this picture \u2013 nobody&#8217;s fooled. You went out there and flexed. Somebody told him the paparazzi were out there,\u201d he joked. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote fp-pullquote has-grazia-font-family\" style=\"font-size:44px;font-style:normal;font-weight:400\"><blockquote><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s by far the the most challenging movie I\u2019ve ever been a part of&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI have to respect it. It\u2019s a lot of hard work, and it doesn\u2019t get any easier when you have the very long grey beard. That&#8217;s one of the things I respect about Matt is that he just works very hard, and you can see that if it requires a certain physique for the role where he&#8217;s got to be a warrior, he&#8217;ll get it done. Very impressive.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s yet to be revealed what Damon\u2019s exact fitness regime was in order to prepare for the role, but Men\u2019s Health have previously reported that the actor\u2019s long-term trainer, Jason Walsh, avoids getting the actor to lift heavy weights. Screen Rant report that in a now-deleted podcast episode, stunt performer James Newman talked about the shoot, saying: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMatt definitely wanted to be more efficient because that&#8217;s the character. Odysseus is really the only war scene character along that journey. The guys he has with him have fought with him but Odysseus himself is like, \u2018I\u2019ve lived and breathed battle,\u2019 and so that makes him more smart, and that\u2019s why he\u2019s so good. Matt definitely understood that and then we were trying to play that up as well. So he isn\u2019t going to do flashy things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reviews for the movie so far have been full of praise. The Guardian\u2019s Peter Bradshaw gave it five stars, calling it a \u201cbreath-taking epic\u201d. At that point I was kind of like, \u2018I\u2019m good.
