AIan Ritchson has surprised fans by sharing a raw confession in the aftermath of his high-profile divorce from wife of 20 years, Catherine Ritchson. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Reacher<\/em> actor is admired by fans everywhere not just for his acting ability but his steadfast commitment to health and fitness, a particular hero to young men interested in bodybuilding who see his physique as the pinnacle of attractiveness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s perhaps surprising then that Ritchson struggles with low self-worth, explaining in a new video on social media that his childhood trauma and society\u2019s expectations, have often times given him the heartbreaking feeling of not being worthy of love. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking directly to camera, he said, \u2018Here\u2019s some post-sauna clarity for ya. Today I want to talk about learning to love yourself and how I think this could be the great antidote to our times and the frustration that many of us feel.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He continued, \u2018The world bombards us with so many messages, each day, about how we\u2019re not quite enough, right? If we just bought this thing or if we were not sober, we\u2019d be more fun, more relational, we\u2019d be better friends, you know? If we had this or that material thing we\u2019d be worth more to the world and more worthy of love, right? It\u2019s kind of the message that capitalism teaches us, and it\u2019s hard in Western cultures to get rid of that lie.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as ruminating on toxic societal standards, Ritchson opened up about his own childhood, revealing how he was made to feel insecure from a young age. \u2018I grew up in a home where my mother would notice that I got a lot of attention effortlessly without trying \u2013 as a kid, people would just approach us. \u201cLook at him\u201d and, \u201cOh, he\u2019s so, you know, so cute,\u201d\u2019 he said. \u2018In my ear, she\u2019d whisper, \u201cIt\u2019s not all about you.\u201d\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Explaining how these critical comments influenced him later in life, he said, \u2018You hear that enough times and you start to feel like I’m not only not worthy of love, but I’m not supposed to be loved, you know? And you carry that into adulthood.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He shared his advice for fans who are struggling with low self-worth. \u2018It starts with us saying, \u201cHold on, I’m enough.\u201d\u2019 he said. \u2018No matter what you’re going through, you’re enough.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fans quickly responded to share their support of Ritchon\u2019s honest statement in the comments of his video. One wrote, \u2018I adore you, thank you for sharing your inner thoughts not enough people are honest with themselves or others.\u2019 Another social media commenter reflected on Ritchon\u2019s character in action drama Reacher<\/em>:  ‘Reacher may be physically strong\u2026 but showing up like this takes a different kind of Strength<\/em><\/strong>. The kind of self\u2011love that shows up when you let yourself grow.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ritchson\u2019s social media confession comes amid news of his divorce from his wife Catherine. The former couple announced their separation in a joint statement earlier this month. After meeting in a ballet class as teenagers, the pair became high school sweethearts. The former couple share three children together, Calem, 14, Edan, 13, and Amory, 11. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officially announcing their split, the statement read: \u2018After twenty years together, Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way. We grew up together. We built a life and family together. And we are raising three incredible boys who will always be the centre of our world.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Nothing can diminish what these years have meant to us – or the love and respect we will always share. The best gift we can give one another – and our boys – right now is friendship, grace and commitment to becoming the strongest co-parents we can be.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Smallville<\/em> actor has previously described his wife as his \u2018rock\u2019 throughout his mental health struggles. Traumatic experiences in acting and modelling culminated in Ritchson attempting suicide in 2019, after which he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and a few years later, ADHD. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Dealing with a bipolar husband who can give a sane partner severe whiplash and a level of fame that nothing can prepare you for,\u2019 he wrote in a tribute to Catherine on their 17th wedding anniversary. \u2018I wouldn\u2019t wish on my worst enemy. Yet this is the straw she drew when she said \u201cI do.\u201d\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added, \u2018Thank GOD for someone with the unspeakable strength, persistence, resilience, patience, grace, love, compassion and forgiveness to suffer through the valleys with me\u2026 I am eternally grateful that God knew well enough to gift me a life with her.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Ritchson, it\u2019s important that he helps other people who are navigating mental health issues too. On his Youtube channel, Instachurch, he explained: \u2018Being bipolar has wreaked havoc on my life many, many times. I would wish it away if I could, but it\u2019s so much a part of who I am now that I should celebrate it a little or, at least, accept it. Mental health is an everyday conversation for me.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
