Lana Condor attended an awards night – and the internet, predictably, has made it all about her breasts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 28 year old actor – best known for playing the role of Lara Jean Covey in To All The Boys I\u2019ve Loved Before<\/em> – recently attended an awards ceremony in Los Angeles celebrating up-and-coming designers. The guest list included several celebs, with everyone from Pamela Anderson to Olivia Wilde posing on the red carpet. And yet, it was Lana who became the main event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exhaustingly, it was all to do with her boobs. We shouldn\u2019t still be talking about women\u2019s bodies, and yet here we are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lana’s dress of choice was a simple ivory gown from the lesser-known haute couture and bridal label House of Gillies – with one picture of her racking up millions of views. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As social media users reacted to Lana’s outfit, some of them had nothing but praise. \u2018She looks like a water nymph, very birth of Aphrodite! I love it,\u2019 wrote one. Another added, \u2018After seeing nothing but celebrities taking Ozempic, this is refreshing to see.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, any compliments were soon overshadowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Her stylist hates her,\u2019 wrote one troll on social media, as another added, \u2018Damn I love her, but maybe a breast lift?\u2019 Her chest was compared to \u2018sandbags\u2019 and \u2018pancakes\u2019, as others wrote, \u2018That\u2019s my grandma at the beach\u2019 and \u2018maybe maybe put a bra on.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018She’s in her 20s and has no children,’ one commenter even felt the need to clarify.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It seems that somewhere along the way, the world forgot that boobs – like the coffee you split, like the phone you dropped, like Isaac Newton\u2019s apple falling from the tree – are all subject to physics. Gravity exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lana\u2019s dress wasn\u2019t a wardrobe malfunction or evidence of stylist sabotage: it was just a body. A completely normal<\/em> human body. As one Instagram comment perfectly put it, \u2018Plastic surgery has ruined people\u2019s perception of what a real body looks like. She looks beautiful here and there is nothing wrong with her.\u2019 Another added, \u2018Men shame women for getting breast implants but also shame women for showing how NATURAL big breasts really look.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hate comments are the kind of commentary that’s damaging not just to Lana, but to the millions of women who stumble across them and begin to think: \u2018Wait, am I obscene too?\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From Sydney Sweeney to Kim Kardashian, cleavage – real or surgically enhanced – is nothing new. There\u2019s increasing pressure to look young and beautiful, especially for women. The media is saturated with filtered and edited selfies, and celebrities who look permanently frozen in time. There’s no denying our culture is reshaping how women feel they should look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the numbers don’t lie. In 2024, over 27,400 cosmetic surgery procedures were performed in the UK – a 5% increase from the previous year – with breast augmentation and reduction among the most common. Women accounted for 93.5% of all surgeries, and in the US, roughly 3-4% of the adult population received some form of cosmetic procedure in 2025. This of course isn’t counting the hundreds of people who travelled abroad for cheaper, and often more dangerous surgeries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The industry will say it’s about confidence – and for many women, it is. But confidence doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It’s shaped in relation to the images we’re surrounded by, the comments we absorb, and the hundreds of tiny signals that tell women on a daily basis which version of themselves is acceptable. When those signals are all seemingly pointing in the same direction, \u2018choice\u2019 gets complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s worth mentioning that Don’t Worry Darling<\/em>‘s Olivia Wilde was at the same event wearing a bra as a top. Although it wasn’t her chest that faced criticism, social media users chose to focus in on her cheekbones. \u2018Can we cancel Ozempic before our women turn to legit toothpicks,\u2019 wrote one commenter, while another offered, \u2018Buccal fat removal for sure. She looks old.’ <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amid the Wicked<\/em> press tour, Ariana Grande publicly asked people to stop commenting on her weight, saying \u2018there\u2019s a comfortability that people have with commenting on [people\u2019s bodies] that I think is really dangerous.’ When Alexa Demie stepped out for the Euphoria <\/em>premiere, people dissected her body. ‘She looks sick,’ wrote one, as another chimed in, ‘What happened? She used to be such a baddie.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether too skinny or fat, too flat-chested or saggy, the premise is always the same: women’s bodies are never enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lana Condor has been in the public eye since she was eleven years old. The path from child star to adult actress is never easy, but it’s a particular kind of brutal when there’s a history of struggling with self-confidence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lana trained as a classical ballerina and contemporary dancer before she began acting, growing up under a relentless pressure to stay thin. That pressure, she said, eventually developed into body dysmorphia and an eating disorder. \u2018I think it’s time to give people comfort,\u2019 she told Elle in 2019. \u2018You have to eat. You have to stop thinking that a certain body shape is ideal, because it’s not.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to Lana – and indeed, the thousands of other females who find themselves picked apart online – there’s only one thing that needs to be said: Women’s bodies are not up for discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
