We can’t believe the state of this A-lister’s face after savage attack

The actor posted his painful new look to Insta

He’s a Hollywood heartthrob with a string of noughties romantic comedies to his name, but Matthew McConaughey was virtually unrecognisable in his latest Instagram post. He most certainly is not alright, alright, alright.

Sharing a close-up of his usually dashing face, the right side of the 54 year old’s profile was so swollen from an allergic reaction to a bee sting that his eye was completely closed and hiding those baby blues. Luckily, the actor appeared to be fine and was smiling in the picture which was pithily captioned “bee swell.”

Matthew’s famous friends were quick to share their condolences – as well find the funny side – with survival expert and TV presenter Bear Grylls commenting, “Oh yeah brother! I’ve been there…” whilst David Beckham replied, “Ouch!” as did model Cindy Crawford.

When he’s not blighted by allergic reactions however, Matthew doesn’t look all that different to how he did back in 2005 when he was named Sexiest Man Alive by People.

Back in April, the How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days actor marked 19 years since his win joking, “People tell me, ‘You’re no longer the Sexiest Man Alive, McConaughey,’ for the last 19 years, every time someone else has been crowned. And I say, ‘Well, I’m still alive. Come on!’

“If you’re named it and you’re still alive, you’re still Sexiest Man Alive. That was my joke going forward with everything.”

Naturally it’s taken a lot of work on Matthew’s part to maintain his youthful physique – and impressive six pack. In his memoir Greenlights, the Fool’s Gold star detailed his favourite workouts.

Speaking about his love for running Matthew shared, “Like any mammal, we’re always gonna make it back home. I like to run 20 minutes out, turn around, and drop and do 20 push-ups 10 times during the run back.”

Later in the book he revealed that he was also a big fan of the elliptical – the exercise machine used to stair climb, walk or run without causing excessive pressure to the joints – following a wrestling injury in which he tore his ACL.

And let’s not forget what Matthew McConaughey – who dated fellow Hollywood stars including Sandra Bullock and Penelope Cruz before settling down with wife Camila Alvez – billed as “the original exercise” in his book, aka sex. The True Detective star admitted, “It makes our companion see us in a more flattering light, which psychologically makes us feel like we look better.”

It likely doesn’t take much for Matthew’s wife of 12 years to find him attractive, but we can imagine that an active sex life helps! Indeed, the pair have welcomed three children together: Levi, 18, Vida, 15, and Livingston, 12, since meeting back in 2006.

As well as raising a family together, Matthew and Camila have also launched a charity foundation called just keep livin Foundation, dedicated to empowering high school students by providing them with the tools to lead active lives and make healthy choice for a better future.

And speaking of sex, the couple recently launched a tequila brand called Pantalones Tequila together which they’ve jokingly called “the best thing they’ve made with their pants on”.

One for unusual injuries and a habit of getting into scrapes, whilst filming The Grackle – a film about a for-hire fighter that was never finished – in 2008, Matthew sustained a nasty cut to his face.

More recently however his injuries have been less serious and a few years ago Matthew detailed how his lower back began to hurt after he roughed it up by sleeping on his mattress without a topper. Being a Hollywood star really is a hard life.

Presumably expecting to garner some sympathy, the Dallas Buyers Club actor shared, “Our mattress presently has a pillowtop — and my back hasn’t been hurting. I took the pillowtop off two nights ago and I sleep on that mattress without it and I woke up the next morning like I’d been bucked from a bull in a rodeo.”
