There is a lot riding on the Sussexes upcoming trip to Australia, and they can’t risk any scandal<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The countdown is officially on for the Sussexes much-anticipated visit to Australia next week, and after news emerged that Meghan Markle had already applied to trademark her lifestyle brand there, it\u2019s clear that she and Prince Harry see this trip as an opportunity to start over after a series of recent setbacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professionally Meghan was dealt a humiliating blow last month when it was revealed that Netflix had officially cut ties with As Ever, with the streaming giant\u2019s CEO and Meghan\u2019s former friend Ted Sarandos also deleting her on social media in one brutal swoop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then just weeks later, historical \u2018flirty\u2019 texts exchanged between Harry and a journalist came to light, no doubt leaving both the former ‘royal rebel’ and his wife cringing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now ahead of their personal trip, where Harry, 41, is said to be hoping to catch up with old army buddies from his time in Australia back in 2015, we\u2019re told that in light of the recent revelations, Meghan, 44, is adamant that her Prince remain on a tight \u2018leash\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An insider says, \u2018It\u2019s not that she doesn\u2019t trust him when it comes to their marriage, what worries her more is him embarrassing himself and her in the process. There\u2019s no telling what could happen if he ends up in the wrong situation around the wrong people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018There\u2019s no denying he has a terrible track record when it comes to using his best judgment once the partying starts and the drinks are flowing, so this really comes down to Meghan feeling like he needs to be kept on a tight leash to protect him from himself.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Harry himself has been very open about his wild ways from back in his teenage years. Rewind back 25 years ago to 2001 and Meghan, aged 20, had just landed her first TV role in General Hospital, having already paved out her life as an activist after writing to an advertising agency about their messaging around women aged just 11 \u2013 in case you hadn\u2019t heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Harry confessed in his 2023 memoir, Spare, that during that very same year, he had lost his virginity to an \u2018older lady\u2019 when they had romped in a field at the back of his local pub \u2013 11 years before he was then photographed in Las Vegas showing off his crown jewels during an ill-advised game of strip poker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To make matters worse, said lady, who is now a digger driver, then told her own side of the story, praising Harry\u2019s \u2018peachy bum\u2019 that she had slapped after their five minute dalliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, Harry is now a married man and has welcomed two children \u2013 Archie, six, and Lilibet, four \u2013 and appears to have put his wild days completely behind him. But the source says Meghan is still insistent, for Harry\u2019s own sake, that his reunion remain completely \u2018civilised\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The insider says, \u2018He\u2019s going to want to have a night out with his friends when they\u2019re in Australia, he\u2019s got a whole circle of guys he knows from back in the day that he hasn\u2019t seen in ages and they\u2019re all raring to catch up. She\u2019s fine with that as long as it\u2019s limited to a civilized dinner and a glass or two of wine, but she\u2019s adamant that anything more is a recipe for disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018She wants him home at a reasonable hour with her. And the same goes for when he\u2019s in London, she\u2019s not there to monitor him but a Facetime check in when he gets home at night is something she expects.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No doubt adding fuel to the fire, last week it was also revealed during Harry\u2019s high-profile trial against a British newspaper that he had exchanged flirty text messages with a journalist, who he had also added on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the texts, the journalist, Charlotte Griffiths, refers to Harry as \u2018Mr Mischief\u2019, while Harry refers to their \u2018movie snuggles\u2019 and calls her \u2018sugar\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What may also peeve Meghan is the fact that Harry initially introduced himself on a message to Charlotte as \u2018H\u2019 \u2013 the nickname she has publicly called him several times, most likely believing it to be a pet name between them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Harry was very much single at the time, with the messages exchanged between December 2011 and January 2012, with Harry telling the court that he had cut off contact after discovering she was a journalist, saying, \u2018That was that\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the source says the flirty exchange has only boosted Meghan\u2019s resolve that they have to be careful over who they interact with if they want to prevent any further scandal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They tell us, \u2018Those old flirty messages of his [that have just been] dragged back into the spotlight have only made her more certain she\u2019s right to be keeping watch over him. It might sound like she\u2019s paranoid and nagging him, but in her view, she\u2019s simply looking out for their common good because they can\u2019t afford even the smallest slip up. If he goes down, then so does she.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018This is by no means a new concern for Meghan, it\u2019s something she\u2019s been hammering at for a long time because she\u2019s seen firsthand how na\u00efve and trusting Harry can be, all it would take is one wrong word to the wrong person and it could spiral into a full-blown scandal before he even realises what\u2019s happened.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, this visit to Australia is a great opportunity for them both and with Meghan already set to speak at a ticketed wellness festival for women, with her trademark application dropping the major hint that she will be focused on her business endevours; the source says she is keen for Harry to enjoy some downtime with his buddies, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, at a time where the next few months could really be make-or-break for the Sussexes future in Hollywood, the insider says Meghan is all too aware of how much is a stake and is insistent that Harry adhere to \u2018firm boundaries\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re told, \u2018One mistake could tarnish their reputation in an instant and who knows what the fallout could be. That\u2019s why she\u2019s so firm about these boundaries. She\u2019s not trying to cut him off from his circle of friends, but she is very clear that any sort of socialising, especially at night, has to happen in a very controlled environment. There\u2019s just too much at stake for him to be mixing with anyone that hasn\u2019t been fully vetted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Harry claims he understands where she\u2019s coming from and for the most part, he tows the line and does what she asks, but of course there is a big part of him that finds it pretty stifling , regardless of whether she\u2019s right. It\u2019s something they\u2019re doing their best to navigate but it\u2019s tricky, to say the least.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
