As we delve into the details of these shock splits, it’s clear that love isn’t always eternal, even for A-Listers.

Join HELLO! as we explore the most talked-about celebrity splits of 2024.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck

It was the breakup heard around the world; the couple had been married for two years before the Let’s Get Loud singer filed for divorce on their second wedding anniversary in August.

The pair dated back in 2002 after meeting on the set of Gigli, and even got engaged before calling it quits in 2004. Jennifer and Ben reunited in 2021, nearly two decades later, and quickly fell back in love before marrying in a Las Vegas ceremony in July 2022, followed by a second wedding on Ben’s Georgia estate a month later.

Rumours that the couple were headed for divorce swirled long before August; they moved out of their Beverly Hills home, Ben bought a bachelor pad in Brentwood, and the pair spent the summer on opposite coasts. They even spent Jen’s birthday and their wedding anniversary apart. TMZ first broke the news that the pair had split and had no prenup.

Cardi B and Offset

Cardi and Offset have had a tumultuous relationship since it began in 2017; they have been through cheating scandals, welcomed three children together, and even got married in secret. But it seems that the on-and-off-again couple were finally ready to call it quits when Cardi filed for divorce for the second time in July.

In a shocking turn of events, a day later, she announced that the pair were expecting their third child together, who arrived on 7 September. Despite welcoming another baby into their life, Cardi was adamant that she and Offset would not get back together this time, revealing to X Spaces her mindset after filing for divorce.

“Slowly but surely, everybody’s gotta go their separate ways,” she said. “My kids gotta get used to that, ‘No, you’re not going to come home every single day, and your dad is gonna be here.’ Slowly, but surely.

“It’s kinda hard – I don’t wanna talk about it ’cause I don’t wanna get emotional – but it’s kinda hard, as an adult, you gonna get used to a certain type of lifestyle without being with somebody. But it’s also kinda hard for your kids to get used to that, ‘Your dad is not going to be here with you every day after school. Your dad is not going to be picking you up after school.'”

Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher

Sacha and Isla seemed as strong as ever after seeing two decades, 14 years of marriage and three children together, but sadly, that was not the case. The Borat actor and the Aussie native announced their divorce via Instagram in April this year, breaking hearts worldwide.

“After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down,” the caption read. “In 2023, we jointly filed to end our marriage. We have always prioritized our privacy and have been quietly working through this change.”

“We forever share in our devotion and love for our children. We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family’s wish for privacy,” they finished.

Isla showed her appreciation for the love she’d received after the announcement, posting a glowing picture of herself with the caption: “Thank you for all your kindness and support.”

Ellie Goulding and Caspar Jopling

The Love Me Like You Do singer first met her art dealer beau at a dinner with friends in 2016, and despite their initial shyness, they fell in love and married in 2019. They welcomed their son, Arthur, in April 2021 and appeared to be going strong until they announced their split in February this year.

“In light of recent stories, I feel I have been left with no choice but to let you all know that Caspar and I privately separated some time ago,” Ellie wrote on Instagram. “We remain the closest of friends and have been successfully co-parenting with our son’s best interests at heart.

“We are committed to protecting our family privacy and thank people in advance for respecting our wishes – we won’t be commenting further.”

Caspar also commented on the split via his Instagram, writing: “Ellie and I made the decision to separate some time ago. Our immediate family and close friends have known for some time – otherwise, we chose to do what we could to keep this private.

“Ellie and I remain the closest of friends and, most importantly, ‘co-parents’ to the best kiddo in the world, Arthur. This is the last I want to say on this – and please ask that you respect mine and Ellie’s privacy.”

Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague

Even if you’ve never heard of Love Island in your life, you’ll likely have heard the bombshell news that the show’s royal couple, Molly-Mae and Tommy, split after five years together. The pair met on the hit series in 2019 and became the beacon of hope that maybe reality show love could be genuine. They even welcomed their daughter, Bambi, in 2023 – only to break hearts when they announced their split in August this year.

“Never in a million years did I think I’d ever have to write this,” Molly-Mae posted via Instagram. “After five years of being together I never imagined our story would end, especially not this way. I am extremely upset to announce that mine and Tommy’s relationship has come to an end.”

While rumours were rife that Tommy had cheated on her, he told the Daily Mail that there was more to the story than previously thought. “The truth will come out in time, and when it does, I think a lot of people might regret their actions and unkind words. The whole world will, I reckon,” he said.

“What the public thinks is going on isn’t what is going on. It’s not something I envisaged happening, but it didn’t come out of nowhere… the only people who know what is going on in our relationship is between me and Molly.”

“We were together for five and a half years. You don’t stay with someone, have a child with them, get engaged, if it is only a bit of a fling,” he finished.

Harry Styles and Taylor Russell

While this stylish couple never officially confirmed that they were dating, they were spotted holding hands, attending concerts together, and even jet-setting to Tokyo. The former One Direction member has been vocal in the past about keeping his love life private, telling Rolling Stone: “I’ve never talked about my life away from work publicly and found that it’s benefitted me positively.”

“There’s always going to be a version of a narrative, and I think I just decided I wasn’t going to spend the time trying to correct it or redirect it in some way.”

The first clue that their relationship was on the rocks was when Taylor walked the Met Gala red carpet alone this year, which was unusual as Harry is a style icon and even co-chaired the event in 2019. Sadly, the talented couple seems to be no more and have not been spotted together since April.

Halle Bailey and DDG

The Disney darling and her rapper beau called it quits in October this year, less than a year after the birth of their son, Halo. The couple began dating in 2022 and surprised fans when they dropped the news that they had already welcomed their newborn. Sadly, their baby bliss did not last long.

“After much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways,” DDG wrote via Instagram. “This decision was not easy, but we believe it’s the best path forward for both of us. I cherish the time we’ve spent together and the love we’ve shared.”

“Despite changes in our relationship, our love for each other remains deep and true. We are still best friends and adore each other. As we focus on our individual journeys and our roles as co-parents, we cherish the bond we’ve built and the beautiful moments we shared.”

Rumer Willis and Derek Richard Thomas

Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s eldest daughter revealed in August via an Instagram Q&A that she had split from her musician boyfriend, whom she had been dating since 2022. When asked if she was still dating Derek, she candidly said: “Nope, I am single-momming it and co-parenting.”

“I’m so grateful for Lou,” she said, referring to her baby Louetta, whom she gave birth to in April 2023. “She is the best thing in my life, and I am forever grateful I was able to have the time in that relationship for her to come into my life.”

The couple appeared to be going steady in June when Derek posted a sweet video of their daughter to Instagram. “I love you, Louetta. Thank you for changing my life and transforming me into a better person,” he wrote in the caption.

“Being your father is the greatest joy of my life. It’s an honour to be your guide as you teach me how to live. Thank you for existing and thank you to your mother @rumerwillis for being my loving partner on this journey of parenthood. I love you both.”

Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose

The Achy Breaky Heart singer filed for divorce from his wife of just seven months in June this year. Billy had been married to Tish Cyrus for 28 years, and the pair share five kids: Miley, Noah, Brandi, Trace, and Braison. He was first linked to Firerose when he appeared on one of the singer’s tracks, and despite their 27-year age gap, they fell in love and married in October 2023; noticeably absent on their special day was Miley.

It seems their love was not meant to be when Billy filed divorce papers, citing irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct. He then filed a restraining order against Firerose, claiming their marriage was a “nightmare”, while she accused him of “extreme verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse” in court, as per People.
