Is there anything more satisfying than an ex returning to your door, tail between legs, begging for a reunion? Truly, there’s no revenge quite like it – especially when you’ve already moved on. And in Taylor Swift’s case, it’s even sweeter (pun intended, OG fans will know) since said ‘moving on’ is with a 6ft5 American Footballer headed to the Superbowl next month.

That’s right, Swift is deep in the throes of love with Chief’s player Travis Kelce, meanwhile her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn is said to be desperate for a reunion with the singer. According to an insider, the actor is planning to reach out now that he’s over in Hollywood on a promo tour for his new film The Brutalist – in which he stars alongside Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones.

‘Things were a bit rough when they first split up, there were hurt feelings on both sides, but that’s all calmed down now and water under the bridge, at least as far as Joe is concerned,’ the source says. ‘They spent six years of their lives together; those memories aren’t going anywhere, and he would love it if they could both look back on things fondly. In his view the best way to do that is to reconnect and talk things out.’

That doesn’t necessarily mean a romantic reunion though, the insider insists. ‘He still cares about Taylor and only wants the best for her, and he does hope that she feels the same way about him. They haven’t seen each other since they split up, but odds are they’re eventually going to run into each other, just because the business is very small, and Joe would like it if they could see each other first on their own terms. That’s why he’s planning to get in touch; he wants to be on good terms and has even said he’d be open to meeting Travis as well.’

Ahh that’s the coffee date everyone wants, you, your ex of six years, and your linebacker boyfriend. But seriously, even if the celebrity trio does find time in their hectic schedules to meet up, it seems unlikely we’ll know about it. Most recently, Alwyn gave an interview to The Guardian in which he gave his first public comment about Swift since the breakup.

When asked if he wants to move on from the saga, he explained that it’s others that keep bringing it up. ‘That’s something for other people to do,’ he said. ‘We’re talking about something that’s a while ago now in my life. So that’s for other people. That’s what I feel.’

Doesn’t exactly sound like someone whose up for braving public outings with his ex. Particularly when he has a busy touring schedule himself right now. The Brutalist, which already won Best Picture at the Golden Globes, just released in cinemas and this year, Alwyn has two other major projects on the horizon. The first is the adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s Hamnet, starring Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley, and the second is Hamlet, where he plays Laertes opposite Riz Ahmed’s Dane.

That said, many Swift fans would love to see an amicable, albeit platonic, reunion between the pair – often referring to Alwyn as their favourite ex of Swift’s. The pair were together for six years, in which time she moved to London to live with him, and she wrote several albums about their relationship. In fact, Swift wrote hit songs ‘Gorgeous’ and ‘London Boy’ about him, and he has writing credits on her albums Folklore and Evermore – plus a subsequent Grammy.

‘Joe is polite and discreet to a fault.’

Of course, her most recent album, The Tortured Poets Department, was less complimentary – with the album name said be a play on the WhatsApp group he shared with Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott called The Tortured Man Club. In it, songs ‘So Long, London’ and ‘How did it end?’ are rumoured to be about Alwyn – with the implication in both songs that their relationship fell apart due to ‘quiet resentment’ growing between the pair. That said, the couple have not been publicly critical of each other.

‘Joe is a real gentleman who’s known in the business as one of the truly good guys,’ the source continues. ‘He didn’t talk smack about Taylor when they split, he was polite and discreet to a fault, he ignored all the noise and kept his side of the street totally clean, and Taylor will be forever grateful to him for that.’

So, perhaps there is hope of an exes-turned-friends style reunion? It’d make for great new album material, that’s for sure.
