I Tried The Trending Top Stylish Londoners Are Wearing – And It’s Worth The Hype

The ideal elevated basic, it looks much more expensive than it actually is.

No pattern combines sophistication and style quite like pinstripes. This classic monochromatic design has evolved beyond its formal roots to become a timeless wardrobe staple owing to it’s ability to instantly elevate any style. For 2025, pinstripe pieces are shaking off structured tailoring associations for more modern silhouettes like River Island’s Grey Pinstripe Long-Sleeved Top.

With a cinched waist, crew neck, and chic front-split hem, the top draws inspiration from Aligne’s coveted Daphne Blazer and Daphne Knit that the fashion pack have been obsessed with this year. The key difference? The price tag—River Island’s version comes in at £136 less, which was great news for my Q1 budget. Little surprise then, that the top has quickly become a favourite among editors and influencers, and has also secured a spot in my everyday wardrobe rotation.

For a polished look, consider pairing the top with the matching flared trousers or mini skirt – creating a co-ord that looks well-styled with minimal effort. Alternatively, thanks to its versatile colourway, I’ve found it pairs seamlessly with my capsule wardrobe favourites such as jeans (as pictured above) or wide-leg trousers. As temperatures remain chilly, I opted to layer it with a cosy wool-blend coat, a stylish scarf, and a pair of retro trainers for a cool yet sophisticated outfit. When the occasion calls for something dressier, swap the layers for a leather bomber jacket and heels—perfect for date nights or evenings out with friends.

Shop the River Island top below, including the matching skirt, trousers and waistcoat, before they sell out.
