Inside Tom Cruise’s $10k per night hotel suite at Cannes
Any room, Tom?
Words by Bonnie McLaren

How much have you ever spent on a hotel room? We’d like to bet it’s probably not as much as Tom Cruise did while he was at Cannes Film Festival. The 62-year-old truly splashed the cash with his French pad, reportedly spending an eye-watering $8.7k a night on his hotel room while he was in town for the screening of the final Mission Impossible film, The Final Reckoning.
So, just where was Tom staying on the Crosiette? If you’ve ever seen a postcard of Cannes, you might recognise the famous Carlton Cannes, an iconic landmark which originally opened its doors in 1913 (and underwent a meticulous restoration in 2023). But the Belle Époque hotel doesn’t just look pretty – in limestone, stucco and pink marble – it boasts a luxury spa and gym, Cannes’ largest infinity pool and Michelin-star-quality dining (there’s a Turkish restaurant, beach club and a Mediterranean brasserie). And outside, it has its own private beach and pier.

‘I often hear people compare the Carlton to the Eiffel Tower,’ Carlton Hotel general manager Pierre-Louis Renou tells The Hollywood Reporter. ‘On one hand, it’s gigantic, but on the other so immaculate. It’s kind of a monument to the glamour of Cannes.’
Unsurprisingly, the stunning hotel is a hit with movie stars – with Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Lorena and Gene Kelly all staying behind its famous walls. And Brigette Bardot caused an uproar in 1953, when she posed in a bikini on the Carlton beach – launching the two-piece swimming costume into public consciousness.

This year, Tom hasn’t been the only A-lister at the Carlton, Diane Kruger and Pedro Pascal checked in to the hotel, probably also in very fancy suites. In homage to its starry history, the ‘iconic suites’ at the hotel are all named after film legends: Sean Connery, Grace Kelly, Alfred Hitchcock and Cary Grant. (The Cary Grant and Alfred Hitchcock suites got their names as the hotel featured in 1955 romantic thriller To Catch A Thief.)
But the hotel’s most expensive suite is the Katara, on the top floor of the hotel – and we can see why it’s the most in-demand room in Cannes. Spacious and light, with two bedrooms, two marble-decked bathrooms and two terraces, the 352 square meter suite offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. It’s a home away from the home from the superrich, as the suite includes a study, a dressing, a lounge and a dining room.

There’s also a living room where you can play a match of table football, or watch Netflix on the absolutely huge TV. But if you really want to pamper yourself, you can kick back and relax in the height of luxury: a private sauna. Ooh la la.

But if you’re not willing to spend a few thousand dollars a night, there are more affordable rooms in the hotel, with rates starting at $320. And with light and airy white colour schemes, those rooms are still pretty dreamy.

Hotel rooms aren’t the only thing Tom has been spending big money on – as his relationship with Ana De Armas seems to be going from strength to strength. After the pair attended David Beckham’s glitzy 50th birthday together, he reportedly spent a wild $11,590 chartering his private helicopter from London to Heathrow airport for her return flight. ‘Tom wants Ana to know she can have the best of the best and doesn’t think twice about the bill,’ a source told The Sun. ‘He’s a total gent and just wants to do right by Ana. If that means splashing the cash then so be it.’
According to another source, the pairing must be the real deal, otherwise he wouldn’t have taken Ana to the footballer’s bash at three Michelin-star restaurant Core in London. ‘Tom has known David for 25 years. There is no way he would bring someone to David’s 50th unless it was serious,’ the source told The Mail on Sunday. ‘Tom’s not that kind of guy. People at the party were talking about how it must be serious if Tom invited Ana to join him at such an intimate event. Everyone else was there with their wives and husbands.’
And, while at the New York City premiere for the latest Mission Impossible flick, Tom broke his silence on the blossoming relationship. Speaking about Ana, he told Extra she’s ‘very talented’ as well as a ‘great dramatic actress’, who’s ‘comedic, [with] tremendous ability [and] learns quickly’. This comes after Ana confirmed she is working with Tom and directors Doug Liman and Christopher McQuarrie on ‘a few projects’. ‘It’s so much fun,’ she told Good Morning America. ‘We’re definitely working on a lot of things.’ She then flashed a smile and said: ‘And I’m so excited.’
We bet. Maybe he’ll check in to the Carlton with Ana soon?
