This flight attendant reveals what Meghan Markle is really like

With Meghan Markle being one of the most well-known, famous people in the world – you might expect she’d charter her own private jet. But no, the Duchess of Sussex flies commercial. And apparently, unlike many celebrities, she’s a delight to serve.

One flight attendant recently recounted her experience with Markle on TikTok, and she couldn’t have been more excited.  ‘You guys will not believe who I had on my flight, who I had a pleasure of serving,’ Nina Vida began, wearing her American Airlines uniform. ‘The queen, the princess, the Duchess of Sussex.’ Vida went on to call Markle ‘so sweet’ and ‘so beautiful in person’.

But for Vida the most exciting part was Markle leaving her a hand-written note – the style of which was giving ‘rich’ and ‘princess’, she claimed.

First, Vida and her fellow crew left Markle a short letter, saying it was a ‘pleasure’ to serve her. And in a sweet response, Markle put pen to napkin, writing: ‘Dear AA girlies, thank you for the love, hospitality and handwritten note — you know me well. All love right back to you.’ She signed it ‘As Ever, Meghan’, which you probably know is a nod to her new lifestyle brand.

And those who are real Markle fans might be aware from her The Tig days that she adores letters and notes. (In fact, around that time, she wrote a piece for Grazia about calligraphy.) ‘I think handwritten notes are a lost art form,’ she previously wrote on The Tig. ‘The idea of someone taking the time to put pen to paper is really special.’

Markle is also known for always having immaculate nails – she recently revealed she layers two shades of CND Shellac polish to achieve her signature ‘squoval’ pink look – and Vida’s pink set of ombre nails had her seal of approval. ‘She also said she loved my nails, and the captain on my last flight said they were intense,’ she added. ‘So, sir, it doesn’t matter what you think. The queen says she likes them.’

Vida wasn’t the only one buzzing about the encounter, as TikTokers were quick to share their excitement. ‘Laminate it, frame it, put it in a lock box at the bank,’ one commented. Another added Markle was ‘walking the walk she talks’ for flying commercial – which, to be honest, we can’t argue with.

Since becoming the host of her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, earlier this year, it seems like we’re all finding more out about Markle. Last month, for the first time since meeting Prince Harry, Markle was interviewed on a podcast by her friend: IT Cosmetics founder Jamie Kem Lima. And luckily for listeners, she didn’t hold back.

In the chat, she revealed that she’s still very in love with Harry. ‘If you haven’t noticed, my husband is very, very handsome,’ she said, calling him a ‘fox’. ‘But his heart is even more beautiful.’ But, during the discussion, she also made a not-so-subtle swipe at the Royal Family – saying that during the early days, she felt like they were landed into a war zone.

‘You have to imagine at the beginning, everyone has, like, butterflies,’ she said. ‘Then we immediately went into the trenches together. Yeah, right out of the gate, like six months into dating.’ In fact, she even said that she feels like they’re going through ‘more of a honeymoon period’ now. ‘So now, seven years later, when you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way,’ she added.

You might remember, what Markle was probably hinting at was the media furore unleashed when it was discovered that the pair were dating in 2016. So vile was the tabloid coverage and abuse, the Royal Family released an unprecedented statement condemning ‘the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and Web article comments’.

It was a few years later, in 2021, that Meghan and Prince Harry opened up about the traumatic time to Oprah, with Markle saying she ‘couldn’t be left alone’ and ‘didn’t want to be alive anymore’. She also alleged that the Royal Family wouldn’t let her get support for her mental health, as it would damage their reputation. ‘I said that I needed to go somewhere to get help,’ she said at the time. ‘I said that “I’ve never felt this way before, and I need to go somewhere”. And I was told that I couldn’t, that it wouldn’t be good for the institution.’

But, thankfully, Markle seems to be in a far better place now. Speaking in April at a talk during the Time100 Summit in New York City she said she couldn’t believe how, thanks to her family unit, her life had turned around. ‘To have a partner and a husband who is so supportive and have healthy kids who are so joyful… I never would have imagined at this point I would feel so happy and grateful, and I really do.’
