Apple martin’s response to mother gwyneth paltrow’s topless stunt is perfect
Who doesn’t love seeing their mum topless on Instagram?

Gwyneth Paltrow has long been known for being comfortable nude. So it wasn’t really a shock when she recently posted a video cooking breakfast, where, for some of the clip, she opted not to wear a top. (Want to know what she was cooking? According to the caption, she was whipping up ‘a Tuscan inspired high protein #boyfriendbreakfast skillet with sausage from the local butcher, white beans, spinach, cherry tomatoes and eggs’.)
But while the nudity was hardly surprising to anyone who follows Gwyneth – four years ago, she proudly posed completely naked on Instagram to celebrate her birthday – there was quickly a million and one headlines about her cooking topless.
And it seems her 21-year-old daughter Apple – who Gwyneth shares with Coldplay-frontman ex Chris Martin – wasn’t too phased by her mother’s body confidence, as she posted a sassy comment on the video: ‘Did I steal your shirt by accident or….’ Luckily, her mom seemed to take the joke in good spirit, simply replying with a cry-laughing emoji.
Nudity aside, Gwyneth has always been making headlines. Perhaps no more so than when she launched the This Smells Like My Vagina candle on her lifestyle and wellness site Goop in 2020. Recently, she spoke about how the infamous candle came to be – with Gwyneth insisting it started as a joke between her and perfumer Douglas Little.
‘That product is so fascinating because we were messing around with different scents one day,’ she told the 2025 Mindvalley Manifesting Summit. ‘And I smelled something and I was like, “Oh, that smells like… you know”. I was joking. And then [Douglas] was like, “Oh we should make that a candle and put it on the site.”‘
‘We broke the internet again.’
The lifestyle guru apparently thought Douglas was only having a laugh, and told him sarcastically it ‘sounded like a winner’ – before the candle then ended up being sold. ‘All of a sudden, it was literally on the website,’ she continued. ‘And then we broke the Internet again. And then it took us a long time to live that one down’.
But Gwyneth says she ‘kept it on the site because there is an aspect to women’s sexuality, that I think, we’re socialized to feel a lot of shame’. ‘And I sort of loved this kind of punk rock idea,’ she added. ‘”We are beautiful and we are awesome and go f*** yourself.”’ (And, to be honest, who can argue with that?)
Speaking of breakfast, she recently made news across the world when she admitted she’d changed her famous diet. For years, Gwyneth had been on a strict paleo diet with her husband Brad Falchuk – but she recently admitted she has been introducing carbs back into her diet, since becoming paleo after her father started battling throat cancer. ‘I’m getting back into eating sourdough bread, and some cheese – there, I said it,’ she told The Goop Podcast. ‘A little pasta after being strict with it for so long.’
The diet is based on eating foods our ancient ancestors could have eaten, and a modern paleo diet includes fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish, eggs, nuts and seeds. And while Gwyneth might no longer be as strict about following it, she says still sticks by its principles of eating food which isn’t too processed. ‘But again I think it’s a good template, right,’ she added. ‘Eating foods that are as whole and fresh as possible. I don’t think there is any doctor or nutritionist that would refute that, it’s a good starting point.’

Considering her mega influence (she has 8.8million followers on Instagram), it’s understandable why Gwyneth’s diet became international news. And it was largely seen as a good thing, as the broadening of her diet was praised by dieticians. Priya Tew, a specialist dietitian from Dietician UK, told the BBC it was ‘great to hear’ the actress was ‘adding back into her very restrictive diet’.
‘It sounds like Gwyneth is moving towards a more balanced and nutritious diet, considering her realm of influence it is good to hear that she is finding this of benefit,’ she said. She added carbs ‘are a vital part of our diets, providing fibre, B vitamins and energy’ and ‘they are also key for our gut microbiome’.
With her foray into the wellness world, we sometimes forget Gwyneth literally won an Oscar – and she will be back on cinema screens soon, for her first big movie role in 15 years. Later this year she’ll star alongside the internet’s boyfriend Timothée Chalamet in Marty Supreme – a biopic about table tennis star Marty Reisman. It might be the last film you expect to see sex scenes, but apparently there’s a lot of saucy escapades between the pair. ‘We have a lot of sex in this movie,’ she told Vanity Fair. ‘There’s a lot – a lot.’ Intrigued? You’ll have to wait until Christmas Day to catch it in theatres.
