If there’s someone you’ve fallen out with, or you’re no longer interested in – what’s one of the first things you do? Clear your chat history? Delete their number? Unfollow them on social media? Well, it seems we might have confirmation Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez are no longer on the best of terms – as the pair have unfollowed each other on Instagram.

You might remember, Hailey and Selena have long been plagued by feud rumours – as Hailey is married to Selena’s ex, Justin Bieber. But that’s not the only reason the pair aren’t the best of friends. The internet set alight in October 2023, when Kylie Jenner and Hailey were accused of making fun of Selena’s eyebrows. While Kylie and Selena jumped online to say there wasn’t any drama, Hailey opted to keep quiet. But a few hours later, Selena seemingly backtracked – commenting ‘I love you’ on a since-deleted TikTok which called out the ‘mean girls’.

And that wasn’t it either. Selena is famously besties with Taylor Swift, and she commented on an old video of Hailey pretending to gag at the mention of one of the world’s most famous popstars. ‘So sorry,’ Selena wrote, sticking up for her friend, ‘my best friend is and continues to be one of the best in the game’.

But then, despite all the digital drama, Hailey and Selena seemed to make up. A month later, Selena addressed her followers – and asked for them to leave Hailey alone. ‘Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity,’ she said. ‘This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I’ve always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop.’

Hailey then refollowed Selena on Instagram, and thanked the actress for trying to stop the trolling. ‘I want to thank Selena for speaking out, as her and I have been discussing how to move past this ongoing narrative between her and I,’ she said. ‘In the end, I believe love will always be bigger than hate and negativity, and there is always an opportunity to meet each other with more empathy and compassion.’

Plus, Hailey has always denied rumours she dated Justin at the same time as Selena, telling Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast in 2022: ‘I can say, period, point – blank, I was never with him when he was in a relationship with anybody, that’s the end of it.’

But their truce may well be over, as fans have now noticed the pair have both hit unfollow. It might not be that dramatic – as the answer could be they just don’t feel the need to follow each other anymore. (It’s understandable; be honest, do you follow your ex’s partner?)

Anyway, you’ve probably seen – and heard – Selena is now head over heels in love with one of music’s most in-demand producers, Benny Blanco. The pair are engaged, and released their album, I Said I Love You First, in March.

And if you’re wondering, apparently it was the singer who told Benny she loved him first. While promoting the album Benny revealed Selena let it slip after coming out of anaesthesia for surgery on her hand – he then added he was going to say ily later, but Selena beat him to it again. ‘I was in New York City, and I was like, “OK, I’m going to do it.” I have this whole thing planned,’ he said on the Today show. ‘And I was laying in bed with her and we’re about to say it and she says it before me.’

They’re certainly not in as much of a rush to get married though, and they’ve pretty much confirmed they won’t be tying the knot this year, as Selena films the fifth season of Only Murders In The Building, and Benny works on music projects. ‘So to be honest, I’m just enjoying us in this moment,’ Selena added. ‘And then we’ll get to start the craziness.’

In other news, rumours are swirling Hailey and Justin – who married in 2018, and welcomed baby boy Jack Blues last year – could be heading for a split. Almost like Selena and Hailey, the rumours were largely prompted by Justin unfollowing his wife on Instagram. (He later claimed that he didn’t do it, writing: ‘Someone just went on my account and unfollowed my wife. Shit is getting suss out here.’)

And, last week, Hailey was spotted out without her wedding ring. But it might all be OK – as she did address the speculation online in an interview with Vogue last month. ‘Well, I thought seven years in it would’ve [died down] already, and it hasn’t,’ she said. ‘You would think after having a child, people would maybe move on, chill out a little bit, but no. So I guess these bitches are going to be mad.’
