Fashion Editors Agree – Out Of Countless M&S Jackets, This Wool Style Will Sell Out First

It’ll go with everything, too.

M&S Jacket

In autumn/winter, there are a handful of fabrics that get a fair share of airtime. Cashmere, for example, is one of them. In fact, you’ll often find us waxing lyrical about viral cashmere crewnecks and cardigans on the high street. There are also more honourable mentions than just cashmere – satin, corduroy and fleece also have their moment when it dips below 15 degrees. Of course, the most revered AW fabric of them all has always been wool. It’s simple enough to find if you’re on the hunt for a wool jumper to cosy up in, but it isn’t so easy to find a good (and stylish) wool jacket or coat. That is, until I spotted this jacket from Autograph on the Marks & Spencer new-in page.

The Wool Blend Collared Cropped Utility Jacket features a concealed zip, two statement front pockets and a preppy collar that finishes off the utility-inspired look. It has been designed in a regular fit, which is worth noting if you prefer your outerwear slightly oversized, as it might be worth sizing up in this jacket to make sure it fits over your jumpers and cardigans.

M&S Jacket

Designed in a rich amber brown hue that feels lifted straight from an autumnal Pinterest board, the Autograph jacket adds instant warmth (and polish) to even the most casual of outfits. The structured cut and utility detailing give it a subtle nod to an androgenous type of outerwear, but styled over a satin midi skirt or slouchy wide-leg trousers, it can be worn in a more feminine way too. Alternatively, throw it over a striped roll-neck and straight-leg jeans for an easy coffee-run outfit.

When it comes to investing in outerwear that earns its keep, a wool-blend coat will always sit top of the winter wish list – and I happen to have stumbled on one of the best styles on the high street (before the actual start of winter, too). Autograph’s Wool Blend Collared Cropped Utility Jacket offers warmth without the bulk of 100% wool, and nails the brief when it comes to wearability. But the true test of a jacket isn’t what you’ll reach for now; it’s what ends up hanging alongside the rest of your most trusted winter layers. And I have the feeling the Autograph jacket will take pride of place.
