Lately, on my ritual scroll through the internet for winter outfit inspiration, I’ve been spotting the same coat crop up multiple times. Styled various ways. Worn by multiple women across ages and body types. But always the same piece: Zara’s faux-fur collar coat. And as someone whose job description includes shopping for large parts of the day, I know that when a high-street item has that kind of repeat presence, it’s usually doing something right.

Faux-fur collars have been one of this winter’s key trends, appearing in collections across several catwalks and on plenty of celebrities, including Emily Ratajkowski and Zoe Kravitz. Little wonder, then, that Zara has taken the luxe trend of the season and made it entirely more accessible while still looking far more premium than the price tag suggests. Made from a wool-blend yarn with a lapel collar, long sleeves, side pockets and button fastenings, it’s an inherently practical piece. The shape is clean and tailored, the soft grey colour is endlessly wearable, and the faux-fur collar adds just enough drama without tipping into statement territory. It has the feel of a fur coat, but in a way that works for everyday life rather than just special occasions.

The removable collar is where it really earns its keep. Leave it on, and the coat feels dressy enough to be thrown over a dress for special evenings. Take it off, and it becomes an easy, throw-on layer you’ll reach for during the day; practical, but still elevated. Without the collar, the jacket transitions neatly into spring, styled with tailored trousers, a T-shirt and trainers. It’s the kind of piece that adapts to how you dress, rather than dictating it.

Easy to style, easy to wear and surprisingly still in stock, it’s a strong contender if you’re looking for a coat you’ll keep coming back to every year.
