I’ve found a barn jacket Kate Middleton would approve of – and it’s under £70

It’s perfectly spring-ready, too.

Barn Jacket

Every time I spot a barn jacket in the shops, I do something I like to call the Kate Middleton test. What that is, essentially, is when (prior to purchase) I ask myself, ‘Would Kate Middleton approve of this jacket?’ Why, you ask? In my opinion, Middleton is responsible for the barn jacket trend, and if you follow her royal outings closely, you’ll know that she wears one almost every single time she makes an appearance outside. So, I’ve spent a lot of time sifting through high street barn jackets on the hunt for one that stops me in my tracks and makes me believe that, yes, it would receive the royal stamp of approval.

While there are plenty of high-end options Middleton loves herself, only one on the high street has ever passed the test, and it’s my duty to share it with you: the Cotton Rich Bomber Jacket from Marks & Spencer. Although it’s called a bomber jacket, it has all the features of a classic barn jacket, including that contrasting aged leather collar, long sleeves and silver poppers down the front. The Bomber Jacket is also finished with two handy zip pockets and a comfortable cotton-rich fabric.

When it comes to styling the Cotton Rich Bomber Jacket, think practical and countryside-chic. Start with a cashmere top that will keep you warm in the winter and cool in the spring, then add a pair of jeans (COS’ Arch Jeans are a failsafe) and either Hunter wellies or Adidas trainers. Alternatively, dress the jacket up by juxtaposing its casualness with a floaty midi dress and chunky lug sole boots.

So, if you’ve been on the hunt for the perfect barn jacket to take into spring, M&S’s Cotton Rich Bomber Jacket is cleverly designed with traditional barn jacket details, and, I’d say, comes Kate Middleton-approved – without the royal price tag, of course.
