The real reason Walter Goggins unfollowed Aimee Lou Wood on Instagram
The pair have dispelled rumours of a feud

It’s been weeks since the final episode of The White Lotus aired on our screens but still rumours of off-screen feuds between the cast members have continued to rumble.
Now, Walter Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood have finally put any feud rumours to bed. Wood and Goggins starred together as lovers Rick and Chelsea in the third series of The White Lotus, but shortly after filming wrapped, people began speculating that things between the pair were less amicable than it seemed.
The feud rumours were fuelled when eagle-eyed fans noticed Goggins had unfollowed Wood on Instagram. However, the pair addressed this in a new interview for Variety, where Goggins insisted this wasn’t as it seemed. He told the outlet that he has to cut ties as a way of moving on from one project to the next.
‘There is no feud,’ Walton Goggins said. ‘‘When I left Justified, I went up to Tim [Olyphant], hugged him, and said, “I love you, and I hope I see you in rooms for the rest of my life.” I didn’t talk to him for almost two years. I’ve done that with every single thing that I’ve done.’
He went on to explain that filming The White Lotus in Thailand resurfaced up some of this past trauma. Goggins’ wife died by suicide in 2004, and his healing journey led him to Bangkok, where this season of The White Lotus was filmed at The Four Seasons.
‘My catharsis in this experience was different than other people’s, because of my history in this place. I knew what we had gone through, and I knew how close that we had gotten, and I needed to begin to process saying goodbye to Rick and Chelsea,’ he said. ‘’And I knew that that was going to take a while for me, so I let her know, ‘This is what I’ve gotta do.’ And she was extremely supportive about that.’
Wood also bed, simply saying ‘We don’t give a s***e about Instagram.’
‘I let her know, “This is what I’ve gotta do.”‘
Later in the interview, Goggins gushed over Wood’s acting skills. ‘There is no feud. I adore, I love this woman madly, and she is so important to me,’ he said. He reportedly got emotional before comparing Wood to movie stars like Goldie Hawn and Meg Ryan. ‘She can do anything, and she will,’ he continued. ‘You watch what the next 20 years of her experience will be. I’ll be on an island, I think Greece. But she’s special. There is no feud. She is love and I know that I am that to her. We care about each other very deeply.’
After the Instagram unfollow, speculation of a rift between the pair was fuelled in April, when an entertainment show SNL performed a skit of Aimee, mocking her teeth. Aimee took to Instagram to criticise the show, writing ‘I actually love being taken the piss out of when it’s clever and in good spirits. But the joke was about fluoride.’
She continued: ‘I have big gap teeth not bad teeth. I don’t mind caricature – I understand that’s what SNL is. But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on,’ adding ‘It was a sharp and funny skit until it suddenly took a screeching turn into 1970’s misogyny.’
Fans were confused when Goggins liked a post relating to the sketch and left a comment under it. However, Goggins told Aimee in the interview she had ‘the most beautiful smile in the world.’
Meanwhile, Wood told Variety that ‘she was over it the minute I said it,’ and that she was also dismayed people assumed she was upset with Goggins for agreeing to host SNL.’I was so upset when people [said that],’ she says. ‘For fuck’s sake, of course Walton should do SNL. That’s got nothing to do with me. He’s fucking had a career for, like, how long?’
The feud rumours were also spurred on by Jason Isaacs (who plays Timothy Ratliff), who repeatedly made references to ‘social tensions’ on the set of the HBO drama. He told Vulture that working and living with his colleagues was ‘a cross between summer camp and Lord of the Flies but in a gilded cage,’ adding ‘friendships that were made and friendships that were lost.’
Then, people noticed that Goggins appeared to be separate from the rest of the cast after filming wrapped. However, the actor cleared up this speculation in the interview, explaining that the distance just wasn’t that deep. Goggins has been busy with the production on Fallout season 2, and on the night of The White Lotus season 3’s finale, he was in New York for an appearance on a late-night show.
Indeed, Isaacs also clarified his comments in a later interview on The Happy Hour podcast: ‘Like anywhere you go for the summer, there’s friendships, there’s romances, there’s arguments, there’s cliques that form and break and reform and stuff like that. I’m careful. I’m not stupid. I look at the internet,’ he said. ‘Nobody has the slightest clue what they’re talking about. People who think they’re onto something, and it then gets magnified because of a thousand other people. Nobody has any clue.’
So there you have it, feud rumours buried. Now, we just have to wait a whole year for the next series to stir up some drama.
