Eight 2024 Sex Trends You’ve Probably Not Tried, But Should Consider
Whether you’re looking to spice things up, or just give them a little shake-up, our expert picks out the top sex trends shaking UK bedrooms this year.
Words by: Rebecca Dakin, The Great British Sexpert, Author, Hypnotherapist and Coach.
According to a national survey commissioned by Him and Hers in 2023 one in five UK adults reported not having had sex in the past four weeks and 30 per cent of us were having less sex as a direct result of the cost-of-living crisis. More recently however The Sun on Sunday discovered through their survey that Brits want to have kinkier sex, including role play, exploring ‘throuples’, sexting, smart sex toys and robots. It’s clear from these findings that we are out of the sex drought and that 2024 is set to be a revolutionary year when it comes to our sex lives.
There is a rise in people investing in sex coaching, suggesting more people are willing to commit to learning about sex in the same way that they would get a coach for fitness, or a life coach for goals. Such is the demand that School for Sex will be open later in the year to allow people to learn from the comfort of their own home, new sex techniques to encourage and promote satisfying and fulfilling sexual encounters. This thirst for knowledge suggests people finally recognise that sex is intrinsically linked to our emotional and physical health, and ultimately our well-being.
Women want connection to their body and to rid themselves of any shame and trauma to connect wholly and fully to their Divine Feminine power, embracing their sexuality and sensuality in a way that’s both nourishing and liberating.
My goal this year is to bridge the ‘orgasm gap’ which has facilitated women putting up with unsatisfactory, lazy sex for years. Patriarchy, and the belief that women are here to serve the sexual needs of men, are still subconsciously prevalent for many. Faking orgasm, ‘quickies’ or avoiding sex becoming the norm leading to low libido and unaddressed sexual dysfunction in women.
My top 8 sex trends for 2024 are…
1. Orgasm Hypnosis:
A guided mediative experience offering a way for women to connect to their body and generate sensual sensations through moving energy around the body will peak this year as women seek a deeper connection with their sexuality. Addressing sexual dysfunction, letting go of shame and releasing sexual trauma are just a small selection of reasons women seek this empowering service where they take ownership of their body and their pleasure, and experience the power of the mind and how it links to our physical body. It can often lead to an exhilarating full body and genital orgasm without any physical touch or stimulation, leaving them feeling euphoric with a lightness through orgasmic release that enhances well-being and relieves stress. Sessions are clothed. More information available here…
2. Well-being festivals that promote sexual liberation:
Well-being festivals such as The Burning Woman and Buddhafield are safe environments for women due to the no alcohol rule. Some women choose to ‘free the nipple’ and go topless. They are set to become increasingly more popular as they encourage and embrace workshops around the Divine Feminine, sex, consent, and deep, intimate connection. Here women can experience things like ‘yoni’ (vulva and vagina) massage and workshops to enhance their sexual well-being. Whether you’re dancing round a fire surrounded by the energy of wild women coming together to unite in a raw, carnal empowering way, learning the art of burlesque, or doing a workshop on consent through non-sexual touch or the ‘art of flirting’, there is something for everyone willing to boldly step outside of their comfort zone to expand their horizons.
‘Japanese rope bondage known as Shibari is also set to become more popular’
3. Shibari:
The beautiful, magnificent art of Japanese rope bondage known as Shibari is also set to become more popular as more people seek to ditch vanilla and explore various BDSM practices. For those seeking to spice up their sex lives, by elongating sex sessions and being experimental with foreplay, Shibari can appeal as a way to do this, by exploring powerplay with a trusting partner. Riggers are the people who tie and rope, bunnies the people who are tied. Kinksters and curious newbies meet at local ‘munches’ where likeminded people learn and practice their tying. As with any kink practice, consent is paramount so whether you’re going on your own (like I did) or with a partner you can be assured that with a reputable rigger guiding you that this will be a safe space to experience tying or being tied. You can find more from a well-respected rigger here.
4. Throuples & Non-monogamy:
One way people can ‘have their cake and eat it’, so to speak, without committing to one person. Whilst there has always been ‘swinging’ since the 60s and other types of none-monogamy prior, it’s Generation Z that are leading the way with breaking down the societal norms and expectations of marriage and monogamy. As we head into 2024, we will see a rise in non-monogamous relationships such as polyamory and throuples, with youngsters in their 20s choosing to expand their sexual horizons and experiment in alternative lifestyles. It’s not for the faint-hearted or anyone who considers themselves a jealous or insecure person. It’s also not something to engage in if you’re in a monogamous relationship and are feeling pressured to bring in a third party. Statistically you’re more likely to break down the relationship as it doesn’t address any potential underlying issues within the relationship. You can find a useful website here.
5. Online Learning including School Of Sex:
Attracting students eager to learn from all walks of life, from older teens to people in the 60s. Those with all levels of experience from just starting out, those in a long-term, monogamous relationships, to the more promiscuous, and experienced; everyone can learn something new about the pleasures of sex as digital learning platforms take sex education to the next level. Set to be a hot trend in 2024, people can learn online about various techniques to enhance their sex lives, including exploring alternative ways to penetrate (has anyone heard of arm pit sex?), the 10 different types of female orgasm and how to experience them, (yes, I said 10! Move along clitoral orgasm, I’m championing nipple orgasms), how to navigate the body to find erogenous zones and what to do with them. Tips for honing oral skills, information on the latest tech sex toys, and how to use extended foreplay to maximise sexual pleasure through delayed gratification, there’s an online class for anything you could possibly want to learn about sex. Find out more about School Of Sex online learning here.
6. Sex/fetish clubs:
These are moving towards the mainstream as we see the rise in popularity of non-monogamy. They’re a way for sex positive people to connect and explore consensual intimacy and sex with others in a safe environment. A much more appealing option for many, to being groped by drunken strangers in nightclubs. Communication and consent are paramount, without any pressure to get involved. Single women and couples can go and just soak up the atmosphere playing between themselves, if they feel inclined, however single men are often not allowed, which ensures they’re not too ‘male’ heavy. Here music, dance and debauchery combine in an environment where wild kinky outfits are encouraged to leave little to the imagination. My advice is to stay sober as that’s the only way consent can be authentically given. A tip: if you would be allowed in a regular nightclub, with your chosen outfit, then you will most likely be turned away at a fetish club. I tried. Discover more here.
7. ‘Dipping’ or shallowing:
I refer to it as ‘dip the tip’ in my book (meaning shallow penetration). The vulva is a hive of nerve endings and can often get neglected as people opt for deep penetration bypassing all the sensitivity of the labia and vulva. I implore you to get on board with this trend for 2024 and discover the pleasures that can be had exploring this sweet spot. Labia massage is underestimated, however is a key part of tantric yoni massage. Using some sort of lubrication, or saliva, wet the area and use a finger, tongue or toy to circle the labia both inner and outer layers, before bringing attention to the vagina entrance. Slowly explore the hole eventually dipping in no more than the tip of a finger length. Focus on all the juicy sensations that can be felt in this area, avoid the temptation to go deeper (at least for a while) to fully focus and enhance pleasure and build anticipation. More sex tips here.
8. Orgasm denial through edging:
Another technique set to take off this year from the BDSM community used as part of power play is orgasm denial. This can be done solo or with a partner. It involves bringing yourself or another to the brink of orgasm, and then stopping all stimulation so the sensations of imminent orgasm subside (usually 30-60 seconds), before stimulating again, and repeating the process as many times as you wish. This is the perfect way to elongate sex sessions, build anticipation, tantalise and tease however it can also potentially address issues with premature ejaculation, and in some cases sexual dysfunction in women, the idea being when you delay gratification the orgasm is more intense and lasts longer.
