Kate Middleton’s outerwear collection is nothing short of impressive, full to the brim with bespoke wool coats (case in point – her beloved red Alexander McQueen coat) and stylish tweed blazers from Zara. Her most worn outerwear staples, however, are from Barbour, and the royal has been spotted wearing the brand’s popular jackets and coats on numerous occasions – her most worn piece being the Edith jacket from the Barbour X Alexa Chung collaboration.

While there’s no denying the appeal of Middleton’s Edith Jacket (especially when it comes to surviving the inclement UK weather conditions), it’s A) quite expensive and B) now unavailable to buy. But, if you’d like to get your hands on a similar waxed jacket that’s still in stock and retails for significantly less, you’re in luck – we here at Grazia HQ have found an identical iteration from high street retailer Marks & Spencer, and it’s quite impressive.

The M&S Cotton Rich Utility Jacket, £69, is an (almost) exact replica of The Princess of Wales’ Edith jacket, featuring a strikingly similar heritage inspired look with a contrasting PU faux leather collar. But the similarities don’t end there – the M&S jacket has an extremely practical water-repellent Stormwear finish, as well as four incredibly useful flap pockets, much like Barbour’s original. Among all its similarities, however, there is, one stark contrast, and that’s the price difference – M&S’ is at least £160 cheaper than Middleton’s prototype. Great news then, if you’re in the market for a royal inspired jacket that won’t completely break the bank.
