Jennifer Anniston has reportedly become the victim of a terrifying ‘home invasion’ at her Hollywood property. The ordeal saw a man drive a car through the gates of a home which belongs to Anniston, according to online records.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles police department told The Independent that the incident happened on Monday around 12.20pm in Bel Air, an affluent neighbourhood in Los Angeles. They explained they responded to a ‘burglary suspect’ who crashed the car through the gates of the property before being hauled out of the car and detained by a private security guard.
Officers took the man into custody and are still investigating whether the crash was accidental or deliberate. He was reportedly arrested for felony vandalism shortly after police arrived at the scene. According to local broadcaster KABC, the man is around 70 years old, and Anniston was at home during the incident. Sources told ABC news that the suspect, who has a minor criminal history, was not actively being investigated for anything involving Jennifer Aniston before the incident.
Past reports suggest that Anniston bought the house, a mid-century Bel Air manor for $21 million in 2012, and it has undergone extensive renovation over the years. The house is located on top of a hill, with incredible views of the ocean and the city. The house reportedly has a guesthouse, swimming pool, and vineyards at the time it was purchased.
Jennifer often treats her social media followers to small glimpses of her luxurious home, which was designed by architect A. Quincy Jones in 1965 and that she has since filled with her own interior design trends. She has previously shared her passion for architecture and interior design. In 2018, she told Architectural Digest that if she ‘wasn’t an actress, I’d want to be a designer,’ continuing ‘I love the process […] There’s something about picking out fabrics and finishes that feeds my soul.’
She also expressed this passion in a 2023 interview with The Wall Street Journal. ‘I love putting homes together and creating spaces. I can walk into a house and see what it needs. And it’s a fun process,’ Jennifer shared. ‘Some people dread it. It can break up relationships. I thrive during that process.’
‘They’re determined to prove doubters wrong.’
‘Jennifer’s Bel Air home was even the setting for her 2015 wedding to her ex-husband, Justin Theroux. The couple lived there together for three years, before separating in 2018. In a statement announcing their separation, the couple said: ‘We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.’ Continuing ‘Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly.’
However, there’s an exciting property development in the pipeline for Anniston, who will soon become a member of the Montecito set, with the likes of Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Ellen DeGeneres. Back in 2022, Anniston bought a $15 million Mediterranean-style farmhouse from Oprah, which is now in the final stages of completion after nearly two years of renovations. The property features manicured lawns and a newly completed swimming pool. In fact, Montecito, a town on the central coast of California, has become such a hot spot for celebs that the crowd who live there have been dubbed the ‘Montecito Mafia.’
A-Listers have been subject to home invasions and burglaries in recent years. In March, Austin Butler’s Los Angeles home was burgled. His security team discovered that a glass door in his home had been shattered, law enforcement sources told TMZ, with a security guard discovering the property had been ransacked. In 2024, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s LA property was reportedly burglarized in broad daylight, with the perpetrators smashing a guest home window to gain access to the couple’s home. The Internet personality/rapper Bhad Bhabie and actress Sarah Hyland have also reportedly had their homes broken into in recent months.
According to NBC, LA’s Police Chief said that the number of burglaries reported in LA in 2024 increased by 4%, and that more than half of the locations targeted were residences like Hanks and Wilson’s. Over the pond, Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo, Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright and Danielle Fogarty have all recently fallen victim.
In 2016, Kim Kardashian became the victim of a jewellery heist at her Paris hotel in 2016. ‘I just knew that was the moment. They’re just totally going to shoot me in the head,” she recalled on a 2017 episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. ‘I just prayed that Kourtney’s going to have a normal life after she sees my dead body on the bed.’
Aniston’s representatives declined to comment on the incident when reached out by ABC News.
